LOL People are dumb.
The best part about the E-14 comment is that those dorms are the CLOSEST campus buildings to that parking lot, aside from the Assembly Hall & Memorial Stadium.

I liked the comment for one of the other U of I dorms. "It's too loud and E-14 is far". 1) the Six Pack dorms are the fun dorms, if you wanted quiet, you shoulda picked ISR. 2) Quit whining about E-14 (parking lot) being far. You're a freshman, you shouldn't have a car!!!

It will be a sad day when the 6-pack is no more. It's close to IMPE and the stadium and was the fun place on campus. A lot closer to classes than PAR or FAR. Fun times.

And the cafeteria was open until 3am!!!
Also, it's pretty funny that Forbes, Weston, and Garner all made the list, because, well, THEY ARE ALL THE SAME DORM. I know they are technically different buildings, but the 6-pack is the 6-pack.

Back in the day at my school, we had dorm rush. You arrived on campus, got a temporary room somewhere in the dorms, and then went through fraternity, sorority, independent living group, and/or dorm rush. (ILGs are coed fraternities, aside from one which is all female.) Men who pledged fraternities moved into the house the second they signed... same with anyone who pledged an ILG. Women stayed in the dorms as only one sorority had a house when I rushed. So everyone went through dorm rush - women as a necessity, men as a choice (if they didn't want to go greek) or as a backup (if they did). And then the dorms had floor/entry rush on top of all that.
I ended up on a decent floor in a good dorm. We had suites with bathrooms and kitchens (very important as the cafeterias sucked - we're talking food poisoning here). We had our assholes, but what living group doesn't?
My dorm actually ranked pretty decently on the web site in question, aside from parking - although parking is almost irrelevant as you can take the T anywhere you'd want to go.

Yes it will be. I'm not sure when they're supposed to come down, but I'm hoping they're still there by the time my brother moves in (he'll be a freshmen next year!) I want to stop in just one more time.

Was it still called Chomps? The bars used to close at 1, so you still had time to get back and get food.

My old dorm only has one review and it scored a 2.2. The comment by the reviewer? "My roommate and suitemates were awful" Hello?? That doesn't have anything to do with the dorm itself!
What makes a dorm good? I would say space, closet/drawer space, amenities, community bath or not.. what do y'all think makes a dorm good?

I think my brain is on 64% right now. How do you do a search for your alma mater? I'm only seeing the "Top Private School Values!" slideshows.

Most of JWU Providence can be on that list. Esp South, West & East. I have no idea how ANYONE lives in those dorms.
And our food for a culinary school sucked and so did the meal plan. You got 3 meals a day Mon-Thurs on the meal plan (there weren't classes most Fridays they were considered the weekend meal plan, but on the rare Friday class (the first week of ever trimester) you got them) and 2 on the weekends if you took the weekend meal plan. The food was awful the most edible thing was the wraps. Besides that I really avoided most of the other food.

What I liked most about my dorm was that it was very social. At the same time, I could easily find a space in the lounge if I needed quiet time and wanted to study. I also LOVED that we had an a la carte cafeteria (not all the dorms had them). They were open all day til midnight and then like 1p-1a on weekends. You could opt for a meal plan that gave you a certain amount of meals/week and then also a certain amount of credit/week that could be used in the a la carte place. They had AWESOME cheese sticks and smoothies. I think those things definitely made my dorm a good dorm.
Obviously, bigger rooms would have been nice. I'm a pretty light packer/love organizing so the small closet wasn't a big issue. I was able to find places for all of my stuff.
Location is also super important to me. My dorm's location was only so-so, but everything else made up for it.
I'm really sad because in a few years my dorm will be no more. They're tearing down what is known as the "Six Pack" to make room for new dorms. They've already built the cafeteria/common area for the new dorms and it looks SWEET, but I'm sad that my dorm is going to be gone. So many great memories there...lots of fun goofy nights w/ the roommate...met my future husband just down the hall. Sigh.

These were my criteria when I was picking my dorm:
*NOT community bathrooms.
*AC (back when I started college not every dorm here had AC. They all do now.)
*close to the GOOD dining halls (we had like 7 and I wanted to be close to the good one with the Subway.)
*not clear across campus from all the buildings I needed.
I lucked out because I had priority selection. I got my top choice (suite where the bathroom was shared between me and my neighbor. It was great every year except for the semester I had neighbor from hell, which is a whole other thread. lol)
I never got the community bathroom experience that my friends had. Tear.
