10 Worst Dorms in America

HuffPo did a list. Lovespink88 posted it and I thought it needed a thread!

I looked at that.. worst article ever. Every campus seems to have 'that dorm' sure, but this just sucked.

KSUViolet06 03-09-2011 11:36 PM

What about it sucks, Drole? It's a list. For fun. You know, like, not serious? lol.

Drole is serious? O'Rly? :p

christiangirl 03-09-2011 11:45 PM

Woohoo!! My dorm (or school) aren't even mentioned. That's because we rocked.

*points at the list and laughs heartily*

If you click through to the original website, you can search by dorm or school. They also have a "Best 10 Dorms", biggest party dorms, etc.

I was hoping it would have "real" criteria, but it's all just based on student reviews.

Gusteau 03-09-2011 11:53 PM

Yeah, my school (George Mason) has two dorms on the list. They're not really that bad, I mean it's college, were they expecting palaces? I lived in President's Park and loved it when I was a freshman, and they've been renovated since I lived there in '07-'08.

Like Dee said, it's basically just the reviews of a few people who didn't enjoy living there without hard evidence.

Well the premise is, as far as i can tell, like ratemyprofessor.com that's all well and good.

What sucks is that as an article it's poorly done. It's not about it being serious, or fun (thanks, I do laugh at things), it's that "ugh" is meaningless, and none of the other comments they posted couldn't apply to most dorms in existence. I learned nothing, i laughed at nothing, I think it's a bad article.

You know, like, my opinion.

Have you been to JMU? I'm surprised Eagle hall ("the projects") didn't make the list. "Where the elevator works 60% of the time, every time."

I was there for 2 weeks in the summer of 2001. I didn't think the dorm itself was bad. It was nice and quiet and actually bigger than the dorms of similar nature at my school at the time (Western Michigan University). I actually liked the dorm, just didn't like the hike up the stairs to the Armstrong (the computer lab we were allowed to use)...I think that was the name of the building.

lovespink88 03-10-2011 12:05 AM

Ditto what Gusteau said. If my dorm is really the 6th worst then every other schools' dorms must be SUPER nice. Forbes wasn't great, but it was by no means THAT BAD, lol

I liked the comment for one of the other U of I dorms. "It's too loud and E-14 is far". 1) the Six Pack dorms are the fun dorms, if you wanted quiet, you shoulda picked ISR. 2) Quit whining about E-14 (parking lot) being far. You're a freshman, you shouldn't have a car!!!

AGDee 03-10-2011 12:08 AM

My old dorm only has one review and it scored a 2.2. The comment by the reviewer? "My roommate and suitemates were awful" Hello?? That doesn't have anything to do with the dorm itself!

What makes a dorm good? I would say space, closet/drawer space, amenities, community bath or not.. what do y'all think makes a dorm good?

^^^LOL.

There are similar complaints about a dorm at KSU that's the "party dorm." If you ask around, you KNOW it's the party dorm, so if you don't party, you need to pick something else (there are quite a few non-party options!)

<---- was smart and asked upperclassmen where NOT to live if I wanted to actually get some work done. lol.

I think my brain is on 64% right now. How do you do a search for your alma mater? I'm only seeing the "Top Private School Values!" slideshows.
