Beta Zeta at the University of Maryland matched quota of 42 today. Quota is literally double what it was when I was there from 2004-2007 (22, 23, 21, 22)! It steadily increased to the higher 20s in the past couple years, but just last year it was 32, so it's over a 30% increase in just one year!
ETA: Spring '11s after their Pledging Ceremony.

Sorry to lane swerve but WOW. 42? That is crazy! Quota was NEVER over anything but 20ish during my time at Maryland. I think the highest was only ever 22 maybe, and it was only 17 in 2000! What a huge jump! I'm glad that greek life seems to be thriving. I guess gone are the days of everyone participating in informal. I wonder if Maryland is going to start thinking extension soon?

I would hope so. If quota stays around 40, most chapter houses are not equipped to handle a chapter of 160ish! I would much rather another chapter be added than significantly raising total. We already have to hold Initiation at Stamp, but if our chapter was that big, we'd have to hold chapter meetings in there too!
However, PHA is kind of in a bind. Alpha Phi and Phi Sig are going to begin massive renovations on their chapter houses after this semester, so they'll have their exec boards in the AXiD house. If the renovations only take 1 year, Fall 2012 would be the earliest conceivable time for a chapter to begin colonization. In the mean time, I wonder if they'll raise total. If they do begin extension earlier, Alpha Phi and Phi Sig will not be at a disadvantage to compete with a colony, even if they don't have a house, though it might be awkward if AXiD is chosen and they're colonizing while women from other chapters are living in their house. Then again, colonies generally don't have their members move in to the house until their second year.

I was thinking about just this yesterday LOL! I was Ritual Chair for 2 terms and I was trying to wrap my brain around the logistics of holding the initiation of a 40 woman new member class WITH all the chapter members present in our house. I DO hope extension happens soon. I think the Row chapters are especially at a disadvantage with new member/chapter sizes going up SOOO much. The row houses DEF are not as spacious as some of the others and I am pretty sure have less capacity as far as housing goes, and trying to have a 160 person chapter meeting in one of our houses, I just can't imagine that.
