I just don't see the point in this. I once went to pay my tuition and the guy in front of me was paying in coins (How times have changed. You would need a forklift to pay tuition in change nowadays.). I REALLY did not appreciate having to come back later because I couldn't wait around while the poor woman who had nothing to do with (what then seemed) exorbitant tuition rates had to count out hundreds of dollars in change.

No one forced him to go to school out-of-state. This is one of the silliest things I've ever read.

Out-of-state student = out-of-state tuition, unless your state is part of a Common Market or consortium that allows students to go to school in another state at in-state costs. It's as simple as that.

Don't know if this is true - never looked it up. But, I've been told that it can be cheaper for a CA resident to pay out-of-state tuition than the CA in state tuition at some CA state schools.

I guess it depends on the state. But, out-of-state appears to be higher at CU than in-state does at Berkeley and UCLA (arguably the crown jewels of the UC system). Plenty of kids from my HS went to CU for the skiing and the partying--not necessarily the lower cost in comparison to Florida universities (which are a good deal).

Due to California's budget issues/cuts and overcrowding at the state schools, it is not unusual for a student to take six year to graduate from a Cal State school and five from a UC due to the lack of class sections available. Time is what makes the out-of-state schools more cost effective.

I particularly liked this but from the huffingtonpost.com article:

So, he complained about the high cost of going to school by requiring the university to expend nine man-hours just on processing his payment.
