Nic Ramos, University Of Colorado Student, Pays Tuition 14k, In $1 Bills
I'm surprised no one has posted this yet.

I wonder if this is what gave him the idea.
|
Meh, let his first paycheque be paid in pennies.......
|
Cute, but foolish to carry that much cash anywhere outside of an armed truck.

Don't see the point
I just don't see the point in this. I once went to pay my tuition and the guy in front of me was paying in coins (How times have changed. You would need a forklift to pay tuition in change nowadays.). I REALLY did not appreciate having to come back later because I couldn't wait around while the poor woman who had nothing to do with (what then seemed) exorbitant tuition rates had to count out hundreds of dollars in change.

No one forced him to go to school out-of-state. This is one of the silliest things I've ever read.
Out-of-state student = out-of-state tuition, unless your state is part of a Common Market or consortium that allows students to go to school in another state at in-state costs. It's as simple as that. |

He's from California...he's got about 4785674 in-state schools to choose from. Cue Whaaambulance. |
14K in ones? Man that's a lot of stripper money.

I particularly liked this but from the huffingtonpost.com article: So, he complained about the high cost of going to school by requiring the university to expend nine man-hours just on processing his payment. Genius. |
^^^Maybe he feels like he got his money's worth now...

Due to California's budget issues/cuts and overcrowding at the state schools, it is not unusual for a student to take six year to graduate from a Cal State school and five from a UC due to the lack of class sections available. Time is what makes the out-of-state schools more cost effective.
|
It's not unusual for students at Cal State schools to take more than 4 to graduate, but it's not just an issue of budget cuts/limited class options which can vary widely by campus and major. Both SDSU and CSULB have been recognized for graduating students with low levels of student loan debt, and the percentage of students graduating on schedule is actually improving! Many students (even me!) balance working while they are pursuing undergrad degrees so they take fewer classes or put off classes that conflict with their work schedules as long as possible. Maybe the fact that it's getting much more competitive to get a spot at the most popular UCs and CSUs, and rising costs of fees and living on campus is motivating more students to take more units, stay on track and get finished as quickly as you can.

Congratulations Crescent&pearls, but you are more the exception than the rule. The ills of Ca are well documented.
