Other than that, if it runs commercials then they aren't gonna change. They make more money off of advertising dollars than DVD sales/rentals.

I acknowledged that network execs and powers-that-be pulled the plug because the ratings were not as good as they had wanted. They're running a business, and like any business, they want to make money. If they can't pull in the advertising dollars with Caprica and SGU, they're going to cancel them and try things like Being Human and "WWE and cheap B movie knock offs/sequels".
As a fan, however, I am annoyed and saddened. There's a good storyline going and there is no way they can wrap it up in five episodes.
I am not out of touch with reality. Reality just sometimes happens to suck.
