As for SamanthaBay in particular I feel that what she has shown of herself on GC she would have revealed during her recruitment. If NPC members and others can figure out how she is by just a few posts, then imagine how bad her recruitment could be in person.

I think we are trying to save her from herself. It does not seem to be working.....

I've been around long enough to know that sometimes people behave very differently on the internet than they would in real life, including many long time posters (at least I sure as hell hope that's the case). I'm just stating that I personally cannot see why it's such a big deal, and that she can very well be a wonderful addition to the Greek community.

That being said, as I advised earlier, I do think she should stop posting and just become a reader.

All I'm saying is that I've read some negative recruitment outcomes, presumably, based on the way PNMs have approached sorority members on GC. There seems to be a correlation between bad attitude on GC and the PNM not getting a bid, even in COB/COR. It is not a hard and fast rule, just a correlation.

And while it may not be a big deal to you Alumiyum, which is fine, it is a big deal to some. Just as you want people to respect your perspective on the situation, you need to realize that there are more ways people view it than you.

For me personally, as SigmaDiva, no, it would probably not be a big deal to me either. But, if you read SamathaBay's comments and some of the responses the GC regulars gave her, it was apparent that she said some very nasty things to people in a PM. So, while she may not have come across too bad on the board, I gathered that she said some nasty things "behind" the board. It's that stuff that people remember and talk about, and can hurt the PNMs chances.

The point is I apologized regardless of this being a message board or not we are all still human. I admitted to my mistakes, my wrong doings. I may or may not rush, and I may or may not go to Tech. And like I said before, some previous comments I had recieved I felt they were rude as well...that was just my personal connotation. I know half of you wont believe this but half of what I said about my past isn't 100% acurate. Now I will be 100% honest IF and thats a big IF I decide to rush but this is the internet, you never know who youre talking to.

LOL. I didn't find her posts offensive. They were humorous. Aspirants who want to go toe-to-toe with GLO members are always funny to me so this really isn't about the OP.

I tell aspirants off of the Internet that they will come across GLO members who are rude (or SEEM to be rude/are interpreted as rude). Interacting with standoffish or rude members happened to me as an aspirant (and this was face-to-face interaction because these message boards either didn't exist back then or were essentially black screens with green letters). You're the aspirant and they are the member so, unless they are demeaning you as a human and you can't get over it, get over it. Trying to go toe-to-toe and concluding with "now I don't want to be a member...SO THERE" is dumb whether you're typing on Greekchat or in person. I see Greekchat as some level of practice for these Internet Generation aspirants who have yet to have substantial face-to-face interaction with Greeks, which is usually why PNMs (NPC and NIC) tend to come to GC in the first place. I don't know whether they can ignore it in person if they can't ignore it on GC, since they needed to come to GC to get their questions answers (unlike others who are surrounded by real life Greeks to talk to).

LOL @ the bolded. The more you explain, the more it is what it is. I probably would've just apologized and moved on. GCers will take it for what they will and this convo can go on and on and on with or without you.

DrPhil- Youre correct. I'm not surrounded by greeks. I mean I have a few I could turn to to answer any questions I might have but I feel they would be bias because of their affiliation. Sure they went through the whole process but I dont live close enough to my top 2 schools to get advice from real life members hahah. I feel this is a great place to turn for those who dont have the right people available for reference.

And she has yet to acknowledge that while she didn't put "TMI" out there in terms of stalkers/personal safety, she did give enough info to make herself easily identifiable during rush. Even if half of us don't believe that half of it wasn't true.
