Fortunately, that is not a problem with my parish now.
Sadly, we have guitarists that have that problem. I've threatened to have an extended bathroom break during the worship part of our services if things don't use a meter soon.

How is that possible? Though when I was a camp counselor our music director/guitarist managed to turn all the hymns into country songs.

Yes, they are SOOOO slow with some songs that the congregation will probably think I have a bladder problem.

The worst part is that it seems to happen most often when the pastor's (grown) son is worship leader.

Canticle of the turning was actually a song we sang a lot at the camp I was working at and I was so happy because I love it. I think it is a lovely adaption of the Magnificat. And one thing that would be interesting I think, is that fact that the local Episcopal Church is going to perform a mass according to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer for the 450 year anniversary.

This same church had recently for one of it's small midweek services celebrated according to the order of the original 1549 BCP. I was struck by how similar to the Use of Trent it was.

Bump for Election Day.

I only learned of the Election Day Communion movement in the last week or two, making it too late to suggest it for our church. (Probably not good timing for us anyway.) But I find it really interesting with a lot of potential. I'll be interested to see feedback after today*, and even more interested to see if it grows during future elections.

* I see at least one participating church that I think a GCer might be able to give some info on.

If that was a reference to me, I actually have a meeting tonight for the YR at the same time as the service. Since it is elections for the Chapter/Commandery I need to be there to protect myself from being voted into a position I don't want. :P. However I do know that St. Marks is really excited about this and was spreading the word to other churches in Moscow.

It was. Sorry you'll miss it, but self-protectionism does have its place.

So I got a first hand lesson in the fact that churchmanship doesn't necessarily reflect theology. I went to St. Luke in the Fields today. It is a church in the Anglo-Catholic tradition (incense, altar bells, dalmatic and tunical etc..) located in the middle of Greenwich Village, and with at least one of the priests being a partner homosexual. I loved it.

I thought of this thread today, because I have no idea where else to post this:

St. Benedict and St. Francis were having an argument over which order was the greater: the Benedictines or Franciscans. They decided they would write to God and ask Him to decide. They received a letter in reply:

My Beloved Sons,
Both of your orders are blessed in my sight, equal in importance and worth.
Love,
God, S.J.

A Franciscan, a Dominican, and a Jesuit were sitting in a room when the lights went out. The Franciscan said, “My brothers, let us take this opportunity to consider the debt we owe to our sister, the light.” The Dominican said, “Yes, but let us also take this opportunity to contemplate the difference between light and dark.” Meanwhile, the Jesuit went to the basement, found the fuse box, and reset the breaker.

It might be the difference in emphases between the two traditions. More of a focus on Word in Protestantism, so the words of the hymns are very very important. But more of a focus on the Sacraments in the Catholic tradition, so the hymns are important as far as they enhance the performance of the sacrament.
