I don't think Taco Bell touts itself as serving "actual" mexican food. Although, some of the stuff they serve is not that far off though.
ETA: From what I understand (from friends) is that Taco Bell menus vary, so some things could be very much similar to something "actual."
Regardless, I <3 Taco Bell.

You and I know that, but my dad wanted to know why he couldn't get a burrito supreme or a "gordita" when they went to Puerta Vallarta several years ago. Luckily, he'd learned his lesson before we visited the in-laws last Christmas. OMG....talk about some AWESOME eating! And not even the slightest hint of Montezuma's Revenge for any of us.

You mean an actual Gordita or a TB gordita (which i'll be honest, i've never even seen, so Idk how different it is)?
It's just like my step-dad's sisters who thought they could handle eating the salsa here because "oh I get the fire sauce from Taco Bell all the time."

TB gordita = Taco on pita bread folded like a taco. No bueno.

Do they have Taco Bells at Puerta Vallarta? I have a friend who has lived in central Mexico for about 10 years now and he was telling me that burritos are non existent south of Monterrey, as are flour tortillas.

My parents never found one in PV.
It's true about the flour tortillas, however most Americans wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a flour tortilla and a handmade corn one (at least the way my sisters-in-law make them).

The fresh corn tortillas are so much better anyway. I'm loving mexican food in Arizona!

Screw that. I hate Freud. Psychoanalysis is pretty much the direct opposite of the theoretical orientation that I identify as.
But it's sure good for the pscyhobabble.

That is because burritos (along with many other such "mexican" foods) are an American invention. There is no such thing as a burrito in Mexico, unless you are at an area close to the border.

Cringe @ the bolded. I think the proper name of places or people shouldn't be translated. I'll never call El Paso the pass or Las Vegas the meadows or the state of Montana the mountain
Might seem anal of me, but it's always been a pet peeve of mine.
