Thanks to all who have sent private messages of support and encouragement - it's sad now, but hopefully I have gained experience in this process that can help someone else in the future.

Thanks again to all for the information and support on this GREAT FORUM!!!
I'm sorry things didn't work out. But tell her to enjoy ALABAMA! What a wonderful University with so many opportunities! Who knows what next year will have in store for her too!

Oh and it sounds like you are a very cool mom!

I think she may have been referring to the personal site of the actual greek life advisor. As in she is "friends" with him and saw it on his wall.

But I am just guessing here.

Does anyone have a list of the chapters and their pledge class sizes yet? I know all took quota, but it's nice to see the list. I'm still waiting for the class list to post on the UA web sight too.

My daughter said the PNMs were told that UA plans to add several more sororities in the next 6 years, and that A Xi D would follow DG in the future. Any truth to this?

I believe the plan is to eventually add 3 more NPC sororities after DG. But extension presentations will have to be made, just as they were done in 2008 with APhi, DG and AXiD. AXiD was the only one not extended an invitation to recolonize at that time. So if they are interested in returning, they will have to present again, along with any other interested NPC sororities.

The NPC sororities who are NOT at Alabama currently (not including DG who will be joining us in next 1-2 years):

Possible recolonizations:

Alpha Xi Delta (at UA 1927–1972, 1981–1988)
Sigma Kappa (at UA 1932–1943, 1988–1995)
Alpha Epsilon Phi ( at UA 1948–1967)
Delta Phi Epsilon (at UA 1927–1932, 1953–1973)

Possible colonizations:

Sigma Sigma Sigma
Alpha Sigma Tau
Alpha Sigma Alpha
Theta Phi Alpha
Phi Sigma Sigma

So, we shall see how things pan out in the next year. Like Zillini said, UA Panhellenic will revisit campus total -- and of course there's the question of when DG is indeed recolonizing.

(As a reminder or for those who do not know. Chapter Total had been raised last spring to 225. This is why there was spring Open Recruitment for the first time in years and 5 or 6 chapters took new members.)

Why was this done? Because it is NPC policy that any new (re) colonizing group can bid up to Chapter Average. Therefore it was only fair that the existing chapters get the opportunity to get up their numbers up to Chapter Average as well before that. And for the record, despite last year's increase there was still a fairly large discrepancy in numbers between the smallest and largest chapters.

Meaning, if Chapter Total had not been changed and it was still 225 any existing chapter that was at that, they could not take any more members. It would not be fair to them for DG to come on and be able to pledge up to Chapter Average since it turned out to be so much larger than what Chapter Total was set at.
Can't current groups also bid up to Chapter Average if the local Panhel makes provisions for them to do so? I could have sworn I saw on here that was permissible, but maybe I misread.

Just found out a friends daughter is AOPi. She is a great girl so they seem to have gotten a great pledge class.

Yes, it was his personal page and he used the phrase "official word."

It is my understanding that NPC now allows any chapter to bid up to Chapter Average in the year prior to a new colony coming on campus. Bama Panhellenic wanted to make it official that Chapter Total was set to Chapter Average. One of the benefits of doing it this way is that everyone, including I/Natls, are not only aware but also approve it since it requires a vote.

I can check the Green Book later if there's not a definitive answer by the time I'm home from work.

OK thanks. I thought I had read somewhere that you could do it any old time (even with a colony nowhere in sight) if Panhel OKed it. Guess not.

Ok moms of junior and senior high school girls. Listen up. I posted this just now on a sweet littlte girls' thread that did not have a good sorority outcome at I assume Alabama or Auburn. The more and more I see and learn about rush (it's a continuous process), the more I have come to the conclusion that these high school girls have got to meet actives in chapters BEFORE rush even starts. I know moms are hesitant to let their girls go stay on campus, go to parties, etc. But some of these hesitant moms are also probably consoling their daughters who didn't get a bid. Everyone has good grades, is cute, was active, volunteered, is bubbly, etc (for the most part). Girls have a much better shot if they've truly gotten to know a girl before rush even starts. Whether it be a visit in the fall on a gameday weekend or in the spring, they need quality time. Not just an introduction as the campus tour is going on. Let her stay with some girls from her high school or church youth group. An active that stands up in voting and says, 'We HAVE to have this girl. She stayed with me last fall and is so great" has a lot more weight that, "she seemed nice and liked our skit." Which sister would you trust more and knew more about the girl? And I say this especially for big schools. And don't just assume that because you know a girl from high school or your moms are friendfs, she'll stick up for you in rush. The active has forgotten abut high school. Please let your daughters do this.

Oh, and they'll probably drink a beer or two or more but they'll probably do that move in weekend just so you know. So it's now or later (sorry to break the news). :-)

Just for clarification, Panhellenic prohibits any chapter from actively recruiting HS juniors or younger. Not saying it doesn't happen, but if caught there are sanctions.

Understood. But a campus visit with someone they know isn't against rules. Jusayin. No, they certainly can't hold formal parties or whatnot but I see time and time again the ones that do go visit in high school have much better results.
