A word to all those looking for recs - if you know anyone at all in an NPC group, use them to find recs for the other groups as well. I ALWAYS ask if the young woman needs recs for groups other than my own. Why? Because I know women in those other groups! And I'm glad to ask my friends to rec someone. Also keep in mind that if you have a connection who belongs to a group not at your school, she still might be able to help you locate others. I often help friends get recs for Alabama. My group is no longer there, but I can get a rec for ALL 15 of the groups there...actually, all 16 as I can do SDT too. So please, ask, ask, ask....you just never know who can help you.

Will a sophomore have a good chance at getting into an SEC College Sorority?
I plan on transferring from my current college to a major college here in the south next Fall... If I have good recommendations and a good resume, will I have a good chance at being recruited?
As far as my resumes goes; I have volunteered at my local hospital, involved in alot of church activites, and helped at animal shelters... that's about it! Will I need more extracurricular activies to have a better resume? There aren't many clubs and organizations at my current college, so i'm left with only a few other options when it comes to more volunteering and such.
Also, I was home-schooled my 10-12th grade years. (The high school where I live wasn't 'up to par' according to my mother.)
I did do very well on the ACT though!
I know that Greek Life is very important at my future college and I really want to get into a sorority! Please give me tips and tell me what chance I have of getting pledged into a sorority as a sophomore.
Thanks in advance!

Traditionally, sophomores' chances are not the same as freshmen.
No one here can tell you what your chances are or whether you'll get a bid or not.
My best advice would be to GET RECOMMENDATIONS for every chapter on your campus and prepare as best you can.
It is quite late in the summer so if you are really planning on going through recruitment, you need to really get moving on trying to find recs.
Good luck.

Actually I will be transferring next Fall (2011). And would I get recommendations for every single sorority? I don't know many people that were/are Greek. How would I go about getting recs? Also, would I try to get more than one rec for a single sorority? Or just one rec for each?

Yes. Every sorority. From what I have read on GC, some say 2-3 per chapter is a good number. If you can get more, then do.
As far as getting them, ask:
former teachers
coaches
parents
friends of parents
professors
etc.
Anyone you think might either be a sorority alumna or KNOW some sorority alumnae who can help you.
You can also contact your local alumnae panhellenic group for help.
See this thread for more rec related info:

Okay thanks! And can it be someone who is currently in the chapter? rather than just alumni?

Every sorority has a different policy on this. Some allow active members to write recs, while others allow alumnae only.

Also though Violet touched on this, also ask any men in those categories mentioned. They might know some sorority women who would be willing to help.

traditionally it is harder for sophomores to have a successful recruitment, but if you keep your options open it really helps. some sororities will be more open/willing to take sophomores and others will not. your school may even have an upperclassmen quota so I would suggest looking on the greek life website or contacting them directly.

Someone currently in the chapter should know an alum who can write one for you.

Recruitment starts August 8 and it looks like another huge class of PNM's.
I attended UK, and this year I'm writing alot of recs for my daughters friends attending there. I'm really stressing to them that they get them for all houses. None of them have Greek family members. All are great girls. I'll post results after recruitment.
Recruitment at UK is August 14-20.
