Hahahaha...Yes, I like the Barbie theme. I mean, how many Tiffany's, VS, Sex & the City, Wizard of Oz, Candy Land and other themes do we use that could be seen as stupid or childish to one person or another? I love the theme Drexel sister and hope you do the "I'm a Phi Mu girl, in a Phi Mu world" tag line because it is cute (and pretty cheesy-funny)! Good luck with that! I really want you to post pictures of the shirts you get designed for it!

It was a joke, not a legitimate suggestion.

No, I realize that but, it would still be cute. I actually liked it.

How would you have a Barbie theme that didn't involve dolls or that wouldn't perpetuate the "sorority girls are all about looks" image?

Even if it did, I wouldn't really care. I'm sure you could do the theme, minus some Barbie dolls. Maybe they could have life-sized Barbie world type cut-outs and stuff. They could make a spin on how Barbie is very diverse (in career field, clearly not in looks) based on what jobs she has held. It would be a great opener to talk about the various majors of the girls, what they want to do when they grow up and even add in the Barbies from around the world, for girls that may be from other countries. It is just a thought. I actually like the theme and can't wait to see pictures!

So... that helps your recruitment? Why exactly wouldn't you care about perpetuating that stereotype, particularly during recruitment, a process that also gets criticized for being shallow. Calling someone a Barbie doll would be calling them pretty and dumb.

This is making the best out of a bad choice, but it's still a bad choice.

I read that a "life-sized" Barbie would have the following measurements:
6 feet tall
100 Pounds
39"/19"/33"
or
7 feet, 2 inches tall.
39-23-33.
Apparently a size 4, but no 39" boobs are going to fit into any size 4 top or dress!!

I'm sorry. When I said "life-sized" I meant like life-sized cut-outs of a Barbie house, lipstick, high heel shoe, etc. I didn't mean of a woman. I'm saying you could attempt to take the "shallow" end of it and make it into something cute and fun. I said it would be a cute idea because of the colors pink and growing up playing with Barbie dolls. I didn't say it because I think we should perpetuate stereotypes of bimbos. There have been even dumber themes, in the past. Whether people like my opinion or not, I still like the idea. I wish everyone at Drexel a successful recruitment, regardless of the theme.

Hell to the yeah. If you're going to rail about superficiality, female stereotypes and childishness in themes, Barb certainly does not have a corner on the market. Not everyone is a Disney fan and that shyte gets used ALL the time.
FWIW, I never felt upset or disempowered or any of that other garbage by Barbie, and much preferred her (or her paper doll counterparts) to the far more insipid choice of playing "house."
