At my school, almost all members in APO, AKY, and DSP were not part of social GLOs. The social/business fraternities prided and promoted themselves on not being a social GLO and, based on my interactions, thought they were better because they had a business or service aspect. I don't think this is the norm based on other people's posting on GC, but it's how it works on my campus.
In all honesty, the groups here operated just like social GLOs (parties (APO in particular), pledging, community service, campus events), they just weren't bound by any Greek Council. Additionally, these groups always had a ton of members wear letters to the bar/parties frequently.
It's funny because if an IFC or Panhel member is seen at the bar wearing letters, the councils and greek advisor is not afraid to call your chapter out publicly. It is even worse if the photos are on Facebook and someone found it. One person got, from my perspective, blasted and publicly humiliated in front of every council and chapter e-boards at a leadership retreat a year or two ago.
