Actually I'd really like to be able to read magazines/comics/newspapers on a reader. It's something that could actually get me to buy comics or subscribe to a newspaper. Going to need color support though and i know that's not fully there yet for the readers. (Or wasn't last i checked)

I've had my nook for a few months and LOVE it. The touch screen is incredibly easy (easier than my Blackberry Storm) and the internet connection is great. I love that I can surf the web and play games on it, and books are actually released on their release date to the nook (not always true with the Kindle... just ask anyone waiting for the new Sookie Stackhouse book! They had to wait a few weeks). I love getting the free books and being able to read for free in the stores, too. I've saved a lot of money on books by reading at the store. It takes seconds, literally, to download a book. The page turning buttons are in a great location (on both sides) so it's comfortable to hold and easy to navigate.
I was a naysayer until I got mine. While I love the feel of an actual book, the nook is so much easier when I'm traveling. I keep it in my purse and bring it everywhere.

I don't have any e-readers, but i think the BN's version wins by a small margin on the account of it being named "Nook e-reader" Nookie reader? really?
hehehe. heh. heh.

i'm a kindle gal, through and through. i LOVE the battery life, FREE internet access (fo' life) and the fact that it's *gasp* not touch screen.
i have a tablet/touch pc, a touch phone, etc etc. its nice to have something with long life AND that can be jostled about without resetting itself or opening something crazy from the slightest bump.
and also, i have to thank ipad users, because now when i'm out and about with my kindle nobody bothers me for a demonstration. i'm old news!

This is just me, but if I jerk my iPod Touch while it's running it skips to a new song.

I love my Kindle. Internet access is awesome, but not NEARLY as distracting as the much more easily accessible games and internet are on the nook or ipad. My friends who have either of those often find themselves wandering away from reading and logged on Facebook all too often.
I also love that it is not a touch screen.

I have a Nook & I love it. Initially, I was dead set against e-readers. Earlier this year, I traveled a lot for work. I had 8 books in my hotel that I had finished. I was tired of lugging books around. That's when I began to consider an e-reader. Now, I have pretty much any book I want on hand at any time. I love reading so much that I would keep a book in my purse for long waits...hairdresser, dmv, etc. Now, I have 1500+ books and B&N's library at my fingertips. I saw that a $149 wifi only Nook was recently introduced. If you love reading and you're always looking for more shelf space, consider an e-reader. Take it from another book lover.

I can't believe my sil got a Nook! In the decades I've known her, she was stuck to a I-don't-read policy.
I think that it is more of a status thing with her but anything to get folks to read!
Wish I could convince my hubby...sure would save space around here!

I have the Nook Color and I love it! Magazines are clear and colorful and I've had no problem with eye strain reading books. Plus it has wifi and the internet and I love the "lend" feature. It does have a few apps installed like Fb and Pandora, but I recently rooted it to run the Android apps so now it is basically a tablet for $250 - way cheaper than an ipad.

We bought an off-brand e-reader, I-River. The guy at the store said it's better because it's plug and play and more open source. But it's a huge pain in the arse. My husband will be getting an Ipad, a Kindle or a Nook when we go to the US in the summer (WAY cheaper there). I'm rooting for a Nook, but we'll have to load up on books while there because we can't download outside the US. Oh, and that's something to keep in mind if you travel internationally. The reader will of course continue to work, but you can't download new books.

My daughter got a pandigital e-reader for Christmas and it was super slow so she returned it and got a Nook instead. She's quite happy with it. For myself, I cannot decide between Nook and Kindle. She thinks I should go Nook so we can loan each other books. I think the real difference comes down to .. do you want to buy your books from Barnes & Noble or Amazon? Will both companies remain viable for the life of the device? How important is the keypad on the Kindle to you?

I have a Nook Color, and minus a faulty charger that B&N replaced no questions asked, it has been GREAT. The touchscreen responds well, the color is beautiful, and I haven't had any eye strain despite the backlight. I love being able to throw it in my bag and have it all the time.
As for both companies remaining viable, the only one I would be nervous about getting is the Border's Kobu (?). Rumor is Border's is in deep trouble.
