Not happy about it. Won't be voting for Obama again if he runs for re-election.

Just curious, but why aren't you happy with the appointment?

For one thing, based on what I have learned, she tried her first case when she joined the Obama administration. It is ridiculous to me that she is now being nominated for the highest court in the land with no real experience. I personally think that he is nominating her as a way of getting the gay vote in the next election. I know that people see it as her bringing a fresh perspective, but bringing a fresh perspective and being qualified do not have to be mutually exclusive.

And also, there is the fact that not once in the history of the country has there been a Black woman. Yet he has overlooked quite a few in making these two nominations. I don't expect or want him to have a Black agenda, but the same interest people have in diversifying the court with a Hispanic woman and judges of various religions could certainly expand to include having a qualified Black woman seated on the court. Personally I feel that he is taking the Black vote for granted at this point.

You are dumb.

You criticize the man because you say he is pandering to gays yet you want him to pander to blacks? Hippo-krit!

Hence why I was hesitant about answering the question. I wasn't criticizing him for pandering to gays, I was simply saying that I think it is one reason he chose her. And I clearly said I don't expect or want him to have a "Black agenda."

Woooooow....you ARE serious aren't you? Ok...make a list of at least 5 Black woman judges who are more qualified than Kagan.

You're mad that she is not Black, you think she is gay, let's make it a trifecta and discriminate because she is in her 50s

As usual you have nothing to contribute. Obviously you haven't educated yourself on the Black women available for the nomination. And now you're trying to play it off. Before you ask if I'm serious, why don't you educate yourself.

Nah nothing to add all the good comments and comebacks were taken.

Talk about playing it off...

Since you put it out there, why don't you educate us and just give ONE name of someone of color who you find more qualified.

And what's messed up is Kevin already put one out there...can you do better??

You're right. That is messed up because for all your attempts at witty sarcastic comebacks, it is painfully clear that you don't know anything about this issue.

I can put names out there, but some of these names are already either on the short list or just out there in general. If you know so much, seems like you should already be able to produce some names and have an intelligent discussion about it. smh

Judge Vicki Miles LaGrange, Chief Judge of the Western District of Oklahoma is the only one which comes to mind.

-- I actually thought she might make Obama's list, but her pedigree is probably not good enough with an undergrad from Vassar and a JD from Howard.

Leah Ward Sears came up on the short list both times; she's Cornell undergrad and Emory Law. It seems, though, that she wants to be in corporate law at this time.

Perhaps, and she was considered a strong candidate before he ever made office. and who is the third you think?

Why?
It may have been as simple as giving her more time as SG. And I worry that Ginsberg may have to resign sooner than she would like for health/age reasons. For her sake I hope not, but you never know.

From what I've heard on NPR, that's what the pundits think. This beefs up her credentials for the post.
