when a character has a feeling or there is an emotional interaction, BAM! they break out in song.
That's why I found it so funny when Jesse said to Rachel through the door, "Come out so we can talk about it, OR sing about it." Kind of poked fun at the genre.
How funny was, "When I pulled my hamstring, I went to a misogynist."
