It was not intended to be bait for the birds so the cat could kill them! When Bob was mad at his family for getting a new kitten, he left me gifts of dead birds and mice on my porch. He was trying to get me to take him in, since they had "betrayed" him. That cat still loves me. They don't live next door anymore, but when I go to their house, Bob shows up from where ever he was hiding and jumps in my lap for me to pet him. I think he misses me I miss him because I used to know the mice in the neighborhood would never be a problem as long as Bob was on the job!
Yep, this is what my girl does too (not so much now because she's old).

She was a stray before we found her so I'm sure she's just doing what she used to do before she became a housecat. But still, ew.

We had a pond in our backyard and we had to get rid of it because she was hunting our fish (that cost money), and hunting the birds, frogs, etc. that hung around it.

Now she's kind of old and can't do it as often, but she still makes sure she brings us a mouse or 2 once a month.
