Most SEC schools do rush during the spring of your senior year and then the proceeding summer. You can be given a bid anytime during that process. Most schools also require a formal rush sometime in late August during which a handful of guys will be given bids. Formal rush is really for guys who are out of town or working all summer and cannot attend rush events, or guys who know don't know enough about the system to know to go in the summer.

As far as the actual bids being given out: After a rushee has met enough guys and everyone has an impression of him, a vote will take place. If he passes, he will likely be invited to a party and at some point will be secluded from the party and extended a bid. This actual process varies from fraternity to fraternity and school to school. If the bid is accepted it usually results in a beer shower.

Also, it's a sad but true fact that most large southern fraternities are unlikely to give a bid to a foreigner or minority. It has been done, but it's rare. Don't hate the players, hate the game.

maybe im misunderstanding, but to me that quote is used when something is just a by product or passively happens as a result. what im saying is that the members of the org are the ones that actively choose not to recruit a minority, so i just don't think this quote fits here.

So Rush starts the spring of your last high school year?
That's intense.

Here, where Greek Life is maybe 1% of the population, granted it is a large school, sometimes rush don't even realize they are being rushed until we invite them to something smaller like a social or something.
