Back in the 80's when I was dating this guy, who was a Sigma Chi alum (out in the working world for a few years), I mentioned how much I would love to have a Candle Light before I graduated. He jokingly said that he would lavalier me , I said, "Heck No, you're 25 years old!!! How lame would that be?"
He got the message - a couple months later he asked me to marry him, along with an engagement ring! I got to have my Candle Light, he got ME!!
Now married 25 years- what a smart choice for him!!
"My Pi Phi Man, where ever you are, I'll be thinking about you, whether near or far....."
Still have the candle with the wine and silver blue ribbons in a glass case in my kitchen!

The bump in the thread about pearling made me wonder if that might be an option for the OP.

Of course you can lavalier her! You don't have to be greek to give her, her own letters. It's just a sweet gesture that you recognize the importance of her sorority.

But that's not lavaliering. That's giving her a present.

A guy gives a girl a lavalier with her sorority letters = gift.
A guy gives a girl a lavalier with his fraternity letters = lavaliering.
A guy gives a girl a pendant (if he is not greek) = lavaliering, if the couple and the girl's sorority choose to treat it as such.

Point taken. "gift giving" if you will. Yes, aephi, I think it's a sweet gesture. and wouldn't be offended by it.

Why don't you ask the girl who told you?

I think any woman would be happy with a pearl necklace.
*snicker*
Seriously, though, I agree with Sen -- ask the person who told you.
