I don't think it's that big of a deal, really. I don't bring outside meals into the movie because it's against their rules, plus, I'd rather just eat what's provided. As for it being "tacky" and "low class", that's kind of judging the person rather than the person's actions, so, I wouldn't necessarily say all of that. If I was out with someone and they brought in their own food, I wouldn't care. If they clowned, and/or argued, and/or caused a scene after being stopped, and asked not to bring in their own food, then I would have issues with that and would very much so agree with that as being "tacky" and "low class".
