It's their theatre, their rules. No outside food is hardly unreasonable.
I don't think their rules are only about making money either. Isn't it against public health code to bring outside food into an establishment that prepares and serves food itself? I thought there were rules about that, beyond the theaters just wanting to make big bucks on concessions.

I do think they rip you off totally. I often spend more on the concessions for me and the kids than the tickets themselves, which seems silly to me. I do see people bring in brown lunch bugs, get a bucket of popcorn and fill the kids lunch bags with popcorn and go up to get enough free refills that they all eat lots of popcorn off of one small bag. My kids always want to get a medium popcorn and I don't let them. There are free refills, why buy bigger than a small? If they are so into the movie they don't want to miss anything, I don't mind going and getting the refills for them.

Really? All the theaters around here don't give refills for anything but a large.

The theater near my apt. also offers free refills. But, like your kids I don't want to miss any of the movie. If the movie isn't very good then yeah, I'll refill it.
