I'm a big supporter of gay marriage... it'd be money in the bank for me -- and yeah, equal treatment under the law is almost always a good thing.

That said, I do think the coverage of Ms. Prejean is unfair and disgusting. Certain people want to see her personally destroyed for publicly holding an opinion contrary to their own.

My understanding is these 'sex tapes' were made for the benefit of her boyfriend. Making such videos is hardly an uncommon practice these days, especially for folks in her age group. I think many people would be shocked to see how common it really is.

That said, I'm not really even sure what one thing has to do with the other. Despite the ridicule, she has stuck with her guns re: the gay marriage issue, and these revelations have probably just added mass and momentum to the legend that is Carrie Prejean.

I agree with that to an extent. Did you get a chance to see the Larry King interview though (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R0a9xq6uek)? She pretty much self-destructed and it's hard to blame things like that on other people. She's handling everything like an idiot, while using the added attention to sell a book. I can't really feel that bad for her. She made her bed...

Videos and photos are very common and people need to be smarter about these things unless they expect them to be distributed.

I would've agreed until she opended her mouth. I completely disagree with her opinion, but it is indeed an opinion and she can certainly voice it. Had she left it at that, fine. But she felt entitled when she should've felt humble, and she became her own worst enemy. I can't say I've never made inappropriate pictures because in young and stupid moments I have and I have no idea whether they still exist or not...but either way I HOPE I'd have the sense, were I in her shoes, to explain myself not by placing blame anywhere but where it belongs but to own up to my actions. Honestly I don't think her videos or pictures are that big of a deal. Lots of people around my age and hers have done that and I'm sure they did before and will after. But her mistake was to claim extreme purity in a righteous manner instead of saying something to the effect of "Hey, I've made mistakes and every one of us will be a hypocrite in some form or fashion in ours lives but the best we can do is learn from it, and I've attempted to do so." Reminding the public that she is still young but taking responsibility for her actions probably would've garnered a much more sympathetic response than her extremely self righteous and it's-anyone's-fault-but-mine approach. I think she's an idiot and extremely ugly on the inside. I also think it's possibly because she's young and feels cornered and doesn't have enough help outside or inside to make better choices about how to deal with the situation. Maybe she'll grow up and become a better person one day...it's certainly possible.

Ironic that people are saying she is intolerant, but yet they are doing the very thing they accuse her of doing. Maybe some of these people should try leading by example. If you want her to show tolerance for your homosexual lifestyle, show tolerance for her viewpoints as well.

I agree that that is what has fueled the rampage, but I don't think that's the complaint most people have against her. Her attitude about the situation is deplorable. It's society's fault, her ex boyfriend's fault, the media's fault...but never hers. As I've said is it really that big of a deal that she made videos or pictures for her boyfriend? Not really. I've personally never made a video and couldn't see myself doing so but that doesn't mean I never took pictures that I'd be embarassed for the world to see, and that's the same concept. A lot of people have done that, especially while young. But instead of saying look, guys, I made a mistake when I was young and thought I was in love but I've learned from it and I hope everyone will judge me by who I am now...she's kept a self righteous sneer on her face, judging others left and right. That's a great way to make yourself a target, and that is what bothers me personally, not that she voiced her opinion. I personally recognize that though I don't agree with it, she of course has a right to express it as long as it is not malicious towards others, and I don't think she worded it in that manner.

many people (myself included until recently) don't realize that being open minded means also being open minded to people they feel are close minded.

Everyone is close minded. People just have different tolerance levels and triggers.

Once people stop touting themselves and others as truly open minded, they will get over the fact that differences aren't always smooth sailing.
