While I could write a dissertation on this, I truly do not have the time nor inclination for it! It can be a little difficult to believe if you a) didn't grow up here with it or b) haven't lived here aa while and learned it. So, a little project for you if you
really want to know:
1) Read all threads on Alabama recruitment (esp this year's)
2) Read all the threads on Old Row at Alabama
3) Read the Wikipedia article on "the machine", a secret Greek political organization at Alabama
