Don't wait until next fall. Check with the Greek Life office about chapters who are COBing now. Also inquire about Spring informal recruitment. The chapters participating in COB and informal are in all liklihood the only chapters who might have an interest in taking you. Meanwhile, keep your grades up and pick a couple of campus organizations with which to get involved. Sororites will be looking at your grades and activities.
Try to sit next to sorority girls in your classes. Be friendly and strike up converstions with them. Ditto for your club activities.
If you go through COB or informal, keep a very open mind and let the full process play out before you make a decision.
If you're asked why you haven't participated in recruitment up until now, I would keep your explanation short and simple -- just say that greek life has always held an interest for you, but that you simply haven't pursued it up until this point (perhaps because you were focused on transferring schools.)
