LA needs donations to cover MJ Memorial

I'd say it's sadder that so much public money is going to an entertainer's funeral, even one for someone as prominent as Michael Jackson. Can't they solicit donations from his friends in the entertainment industry?

That's true, but who knows what the real issue is with the state. I work for the state (not California) and we had to take a pay cut for the last month of the school year because of state mandated cuts. Oh I definitely understand - I just don't think it should be the city's responsibility, even with the deceased having been such a public figure.
