Another, sorority girls are only going to college for their MRS degree. Pulease! I can't even count how many of our members have gone on to be doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, engineers, etc, etc, etc.

I love all Greek stereotypes because I live out a good majority of them.

It depends on the organization. I might be wrong, but my experience is that the older NIC fraternities, mine included, tend to really dislike the term frat and consider it disrespectful.

This is actually the only reason I tend to use "fraternity" more than "frat." I would always hang out with the Delta Chis, and they (at least the ones on my campus) were very serious about calling it a fraternity. But they didn't exactly have anything against someone if they said "frat". I think they just saw it as, "We're members, we know it's the Delta Chi Fraternity, that's what we call it" kind of thing.

But to each their own.

This.

Many NPHC, NALFO, and MC organizations use the term frequently. It's not considered disrespectful at all.

ETA: I've always wondered why "Soror" never gets the "You wouldn't call your country..." references. It's also an abbreviation, but no one seems to care about that one ::shrug::

YES. The NPC sororities at Hopkins consistently have GPAs above the all-undergraduate and all-female averages, but the "anti-Greek" students make nasty comments about how it's only because we're all majoring in "fluff" majors. While I don't think any major is "fluff", we do have a ton of hard-core pre-med and engineering majors (including biomedical engineering, which is pretty much the uncontested most difficult program at the university) who work their butts off to make the grades they get. It really annoys me that people think we're floating through college with high GPAs because we're taking the easiest classes possible.

Then again Soror is a legitimate word in it's own. Plus I never heard of a sorority referred to as a soror. Like I have heard greeks cal each other frater, and I have no problem with it because of what it means.

Same goes for calling each other "frat" and "frat brother."

Is this really a topic AGAIN? LOL.

Well im pretty sure the word FRATER is something said amongst brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon. They would refer to eachother as fraters but wouldnt refer to me as one obviously because im not a brother of theirs. thats From what I understood, I may be wrong. Which in return would make me look like a idiot lol

That's what I was referring to, though I don't know if they are the only ones who use the Greek title.

And among members of other fraternities.

And some NPHCers use it in reference to members of other NPHC fraternities.

lol. I only have experience with something like a dozen out of what, something like 80 nationals? Not surprised though because there is a fair amount of overlap between fraternities. Like I know at least a couple call thier president archon.
