Miss California USA posed topless

Miss California: I'll fight on despite nude photos
Carrie Prejean claims foes of her same-sex marriage views released them
By Mike Celizic, TODAYShow.com contributor
updated 8:38 a.m. ET, Tues., May 5, 2009
With partially nude photos of her popping up on Web sites questioning her Christian credentials, Miss California USA Carrie Prejean has fired back, claiming the racy pictures are just modeling shots and vowing to continue her battle against same-sex marriage.
"I am a Christian, and I am a model," Prejean said in a statement released overnight to the media. "Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be."
But Alicia Jacobs, a judge at the April 19 Miss USA pageant during which Prejean made her highly publicized statement opposing same-sex marriage, said the pictures go beyond what the Miss California pageant says are appropriate.
"I can assure you they were quite inappropriate, and certainly not photos befitting a beauty queen," Jacobs, a reporter for NBC's Las Vegas affiliate, told NBC News.
The images may also hurt her status as a spokeswoman for conservative causes. "She can continue to advocate for causes, but I don't think these causes are going to advocate for her," Ken Baker of E! News told NBC.
Six revealing photos
The Web site thedirty.com claimed that it had six pictures of Prejean. As of Tuesday morning, it had posted one on its site. The picture shows Prejean wearing nothing but a pair of revealing pink panties and smiling over her shoulder at the camera. Her breasts are covered by her arm.
The picture was deemed too racy to be shown on the TODAY Show.
It and the others in the set may also be too revealing for the Miss California pageant, according to a report filed for TODAY by NBC News' Miguel Almaguer, who reported that Prejean's contract with the pageant prohibits her from being photographed "in a state of partial or total nudity."

1) This is stupid because no more skin was shown here than was shown in the bathing suit competition.
2) I'm completely in the camp which is in favor of gay marriage, but this is a ridiculous tactic. This has nothing to do with the debate, nothing to do with the merits of the argument and nothing, IMHO to do with Prejean's credibility.
ETA, the 'side-boob' picture was taken down.
That's the picture.
Is that markedly worse than this in terms of skin?

They're really trying to tear this woman down, aren't they? I mean, I don't agree with her, but this is kind of ridiculous. I guess that's what you get for giving an honest answer during one of those pageants.

Yep. Even though I agree with 'they,' it doesn't help their case to be shrill, vindictive and distracted. They won't win a single person over with this tactic. This only convinces me that the people making decisions in some of the camps of this debate are political morons who can't see the forest for the trees.

There will always be people with a single-minded agenda who make it their life's work to destroy someone who opposes it. I may not agree with one agenda or another, but frankly, I don't have the time to completely villify those who disagree with me.

She needs to step off her anti-gay marriage deal and spend more time on her actual "platform" as Miss Cali USA.
I am hoping that Miss USA DOESN'T win Miss Universe, because then this prize idiot will be bumped up to Miss USA and use it for her own agenda.

I'm just saying what was on his site. There wasn't a mention of that on the NBC or thedirty.com article. Chillz!

My guess is that most people in this thread couldn't care less about her tact if she had said something that was more in line with their beliefs...people are upset about the belief that she expressed, and they're using the tact issue to supplement their argument.
Again, I don't agree with what she said, but the timing and ferocity with which people are attacking her make me think that this goes beyond the usual "OMG she posed for that picture!" discussion.

Yes, I do not like Miss California's comment, but there are millions of people who agree with her. Whatever.
My complaint is she really could have saved herself the drama. Not by using tact, but by answering the question she was asked instead of veering off to the side of the road at warp speed. I hate when a pageant participant is aked question about a topic (especially a controversial or serious one) and starts talking about the topic but doesn't answer the question. She stuck her foot in her mouth by doing so and made a mess for herself when she could have just done better. Epic Fail.
Also, who is really qualified to judge except those who used to pageant or those who used to train/coordinate in all honesty? Perez was asked probably because he is famous and would draw his audience to the show, but don't forget all the other people (usually celebs) over time that also deserved a draw drop and a "WTF?!" as well. He is among an abundance of company.

The thing is, Perez Hilton had NOTHING to do with the pictures surfacing. The pictures were sent to thedirty.com. He posted them up on his site, but that's what he does - he "reports" on famous/infamous people.

The people in this thread were talking about her choosing to take nude/semi-nude pictures until you brought up the whole "they are really trying to tear her down b/c of what she said" stuff.
I believe the pictures would have come up either way, because there are plenty of Miss Whatevers who have taken these sorts of pictures and got bit in the ass later because of it.
She could have avoided all of this entirely if she kept her clothes on but she had a lapse in judgement.
Her answer is a completely different story and she's using the 'oh woe is me! I'm a victim b/c of my strong Christian beliefs" crap.
And for what it's worth, being photographed nude/semi-nude is not the only contract breaching she's being accused of. Apparently there is another clause in there about not going out and doing interviews/appearances without the consent of the Miss California organization, and guess what she's been doing recently
