Don't speak for what "normal black people" dress like ever again.

I wouldn't date a grown man who wears baggy clothes, lots of jewelry, and fitted caps, either. Why? Because I date men who know the difference between dressing "down" versus not knowing any other way to dress.

We're also older than you are which provides the context.

Just make sure you don't wear that stuff to all of the programs and interest meetings. However, they probably dress like that, too.

What if the person is a perfect gentleman. Would you still turn him down because he dresses a certain way you dont like?

I'll wear a shirt that has "I AM INTERESTED" on the front of it with jeans and house shoes .

YES.

I know PLENTY of "normal black people" who wouldn't DARE dress like that.

When you grow up, you will too.

YES.

The "young cats" uniform is not conducive to being taken seriously as a 30+ yo man. And I don't frequent environments where that man wouldn't look like an idiot loser as he struggles to keep his pants up.

I am going to send you a 30+ man that dresses that way so you can fall in love with him. You can thank me later with a card

Then don't speak on what "normal black people" dress like.

You have very limited interactions and experiences.

When you get older, you will probably dress according to your lifestyle. If your lifestyle and occupation are where baggy clothes are the norm, that's where you will be.

I'm not commenting on the dressing like thugs thing really, but there are plenty of ways a guy can dress where I won't date him, even if he is the nicest guy.

I wouldn't date a guy who dresses like a metrosexual because I can't stand people taking longer to get ready than I do.

I wouldn't date a guy who has holes in all his clothes because he obviously doesn't give a rat's about his personal appearance, and can't fully appreciate mine.

I'd date a guy who wears pleated pants because expecting all men to know the difference is a little unreasonable - plus I can just throw them out as they wear out and make sure he doesn't buy any more.

Really, if there's a guy with a sense of personal style but doesn't let style rule his life - that's datable material to me. I'm not into changing guys to fit what I would like them to look like, but I am into guys that take my input seriously and consider it (whether or not they actually take my fashion advice).

Most importantly, I like guys that know what looks good, and not trashy, on me, and are willing to give me their own input. If we look like a well-put together, but not image obsessed, young couple when we go out together that's ideal.

Live-in's one of those pleated pants guys, but most of those pants have worn out and have been disposed of. He takes my advice when he goes shopping, but knows what he likes and doesn't act like a dress up doll for me. If I look good in something, he tells me, and if I have something funky going on with my outfit he lets me know.

His thing is sneakers and tee shirts, but he takes really good care of his favorite sneakers and his favorite tees, plus he wears a ton of really cool stuff when it comes to sneakers and tees, so I can't fault him on that, because he doesn't wear any of those cheesy graphic tees that you get at Target.

bruh...what area are you hanging in?

**why am I coming back to this thread??**

Siiigh....

Ok...Deltadevil...about how old are you? In your 20s?

It's common that guys your age (heck most ages really) will do what they can to "fit in" or "keep up". That's just natural.

BUT...at a certain point you come to realize that you have to change your game if you want a certain type of company to be around you.

If you want ebtter jobs and a better lifestyle, then you eventually have to switch up what you are doing to get those things.

I eman if you wanna wear your Tims and your saggy off the ass pant's...that's fine ...as long as you realize you are what you attract.

Another thing you will eventaully realize, as so many of us do when we enter 'real life' working world, some of those labels and shyte like that eventally play out and you have to start growing up and dressing FOR YOU and not so much to impress everyone else.

It's nothing wrong with looking nice but by God, please be able to recoginze when to leave the 'thug' at home!

I look at some of you youngins out here now and wonder why some of you can't do somethign so simple AS pull the pants up? LOL

And the jewelry thing...maybe it's a regional thing now as most people here in my area don't floss and flash the gold like they did back in the 90's but there is a way to be subtle about it without being obnoxious with it because I SWEAR it was nothing worse than seeing someone with more gold in thier mouth than change in their and $1000 worth of clothing on, still catching the bus.
