True. I was really only allowed to come in my parent's room if I needed something.
I think what they were trying to say is that they're tired of their room being the "hang out" spot for the kids. Like, they come in and out, get up early and watch TV in there, try to sleep in there as opposed to their own rooms, etc.

I can certainly see that parents are entitled to privacy, etc and I agree that using and abusing the parents' bedroom can be curtailed. We have a Please Don't use Our Bathroom policy at our house.
But, again, my issues with Kate are the way she says things. It's as if she thinks being a bad ass is the cool way to parent...I think that is really what is behind the outcry over Kate banning them from her bedroom.

Yeah, she's not always the nicest person when she says things. I think it could have been kept to a simple "This is our room and you are not to come in here unless you really need something."

So, what is a child supposed to do when he/she gets sick (which always happens in the middle of the night), or has a bad dream? Knocking first, sure - but total banishment?

I get the feeling that sick kids and bad dreams are the exemptions from the banishment. Think what you will about Jon and Kate, but even they're not the kind of horrible parents who don't take care of their sick kids. The kids have probably been hung out it mom and dad's room at least a dozen times by now.
I don't know about you guys, but I certainly don't believe everything that comes out of their mouths.
