If you get government backed student loans, they have to go toward certain things. I know plenty of people who get private student loans, especially for grad school and completely live on that money (or that money plus child support from ex-husbands, etc). You rack up an awful lot in loans that way though. With some private loans, they just send you a check.
There are some people that I wish the media would stop giving attention to. (I ended that in a preposition, I know). This is one of them. Kwame Kilpatrick is another. Now that he's out of jail, our local news folks are following him around everywhere and reporting on his activities... getting out of jail, parked at his house waiting for him to leave for the airport to go to Dallas for a job interview, in Dallas, at the airport when he got back. Stop giving these people attention! They thrive on it and it only encourages them, I think. I think it also encourages others to do stupid crap to get their 15 minutes of fame. I can't help but wonder if this woman watches Jon & Kate or the Duggars and thought she was going to be like them and get a TV show, etc. Sick, sick, sick! I decided not to watch any interviews with this woman for that reason.

Not really. It's pretty flexible. The loans just have to go to "educational expenses." That could be housing, child care, or cars. Anything that you "need" while attending school can be paid for with loans.

Ahh, forgive me. I am not at all schooled on the ins and outs of student loans (or financial aid, for that matter). I took out one teeny tiny loan in undergrad for my semester abroad, and paid that off by the time I was done with grad school.

No!
I knew that I was going into a field where the pay wasn't fantastic in the beginning, and as a result really searched far and wide for scholarships, fellowships, and ways to reduce any loan burden I would have. A few classmates laughed at me about it, but I got the last laugh, clearly.
I have an idiot aunt who I hate, who went back to get a crap Master's from a TTTTTT school a few years ago. She took out extra loans, and used the refund for a down payment on a house. The house, as I found out from County Tax records cost $50K more than it was worth. So now the idiot bitch is underwater. LOL!

Well at least she is not using student loans or asking for handouts

Yeah she is SO in denial! Her ex husband is thanking his lucky stars that he got rid of her ass.
Fertility issues can really wreak havoc on a marriage, if the 2 of you are not on the same page
There is no way in the world that that woman can tell me that she had NO challenges with raising her kids while in college and on public assistance.
LIES.
The more I watch this, the angrier I get at the DOCTOR who did this.
He clearly did not follow the ethical standards for IVF procedures.
I bet the next thing that happens is that he'll lose his license to practice medicine.
I've done a lot of personal research on infertility and reproductive technology lately. Apparently, the women in my family haven't had the easiest time conceiving kids (says the gal whose parents have 17 siblings between them!), so I figured I'd get educated on this stuff in the chance that I'd need the information. Plus, a lot of it's just really interesting.
