I must be going to all the wrong campuses. I've never seen a campus children's center for the students' children - I've seen them for faculty/staff, but not for the students. And the ones I've seen (for faculty/staff) are certainly not free.

I'm waiting to comment on this woman's decisions until I've seen her interview with Ann tonight. I've recorded the part that was on the Today show, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I can't imagine how hard her life is. Nor can I imagine how difficult all this must be for her kids.

Nope. No university (or HS for that matter) I've ever attended has had day care for students. My tuition didn't pay for that.

Having an on campus child care center is great resource for students and faculty staff. The community college near me has a brand new day care center too. Usually they are staffed by students in the child development program. One of the high schools near me was built with a child care center facility, but its used by a separate adult education program as a co-op pre-school and for parent ed classes run by the community college district. The high school district apparently decided against high school students having their babies on campus at a traditional high school.

I think for some grandparents it's hard to deny their grandchildren, no matter how screwed up their own children are. Putting her on the street would be putting these kids on the street as well.
