This is just my thought... but from what I understand, you have a fairly good idea of what schools you are considering applying to. So instead of posting on GC a question that's just going to give you a bunch of related/ not-so-related answers... why don't you just visit these schools and go see what their Greek community is like there? From experience, every campus has a little bit of a different feel even though they might share the same fraternity/ sorority and you're never really going to know what's right for you until you test out the waters yourself.
I really don't see the purpose of trying to get opinions on here cuz you KNOW you'll just get ripped apart or get very biased responses.
Kids these days... ya'll need to experience things the old fashioned way instead of trying to do it through the internet. (And I'm 24yrs old, so that statement totally made me sound older than I really am... haha)
idk... that's just my honest opinion. Don't hate.

I'm going to go ahead and hate because I don't recall anyone ripping him apart.
In fact, I think the first few responses were quite helpful:

Then somebody else says "These people have NO CLUE what they're talking about, ________ University Greek system is clearly stronger than ________."
Then somebody points out that the rankings and methodologies used to create them are subjective.
And it goes around and around.

I believe he started this whole thing when he kept insisting on us posting our opiniosn, which we've said a MILLION times are totally subjective and not the best way to learn about Greek systems.
I think we're smart enough to know that the best way to learn about a school's Greek system is to VISIT. But he apparently doesn't know that.

The internets make it a whole lot easier for kids these days. When I was researching colleges 13-14 years ago, my bedroom closet was filled with college viewbooks I picked up at the college fair. I remember having to fill out a postcard and waiting 6-8 weeks for some of them to come.

Several posters gave him the same information you just posted. He claimed it was "unacceptable" to him.

Yep.
And you know how I had to find out about sororities? By actually meeting people in them. I didn't discover GC until right before COB so I couldn't very well go to it for rush advice.

KSUViolet06... I didn't really mean ripped apart as people being necessarily mean, but more of just moving under the assumption that he was picking a school based solely on Greek life when he later stated wasn't the case. Case of misunderstanding? My bad. Apologies.
But whatever... everyone makes their decisions their own way. I guess whatever works for you, as long as you're happy with whatever you decide to do.
On a HAPPIER (and more encouraging) note... good luck with college searching. I'm glad I've reached the (final) stage of my college education with graduate school so I know what it's like to have to research schools.

I found GC a few months after I was already initiated. I too COB'ed.
I think remember your first few posts saying that you were rushing!

I COB'ed, too. I didn't discover GC until after I left college and moved to D.C.
I really wish I'd found it earlier, though. IF I HAD JUST DONE SOME RESEARCH. I had no f*ing idea how rush worked or that some sororities weren't inherently better than others. I didn't know what to expect from pledging or being a sister, either.

Yep:
http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=47578
I joined GC in Jan 2003, which was actually like a year before I even joined a sorority but I never posted. I remember being semi-interested in formal recruitment freshman year which is why I ended up here in the first place. I really just lurked a few times and didn't really come back because I decided not to go through formal. I "rediscovered" this site around the time I got interested in Sigma and COB.
Although GC back then was not the wealth of info that it is now for PNMs. I really just wanted to do a rush thread lol.

Part of the reason it's such a wealth of information is because of you!

Thanks for the answers and those who wished me good luck.
I'm still looking into more areas ( such as the greek system) of my top choice university/ those that I'm considering.
