Umm, if Susie's at the party, I'd think she would come over and say hi to you at some point. If she is a truly close friend of yours, I'd think she's already aware you're rushing and will be looking for you. If you only know her from class or facebook or something, don't act like she's your BFF or drop names - let her take the lead.
Do not mention being dropped from formal recruitment. Either your school's system is small enough that the sorority members will know, and if it's large enough that they don't, it's in your best interests to not bring it up. If a member does question you about it, don't say "I was cut" - say "things didn't work out."
