The letter that we received:
Sisters,
This week the University administration, Theta Chi International Headquarters, and local alumni of the Theta Chi chapter on campus made the decision to disaffiliate Theta Chi fraternity from the University of Oregon. All three parties felt it would be in the best interest of the chapter, as well as the greater community, to solidify this
decision before the culmination of the fall term. Theta Chi is no longer recognized as a University of Oregon fraternity.
Theta Chi had been on extended probation that spanned numerous years for behaviors that reflected poorly on both the organization and the actions of individual members. Those behaviors were choices that were made by the membership of Theta Chi. It is in our community's best interest to focus on the choices of the members of this organization throughout the last decade as opposed to the decisions of the University in response to those choices. However, we also need the entire Greek community to come together and move forward, supporting the men as they continue as students in the UO community, even though they are no longer part of the Greek community, and work to provide opportunities where Theta Chi could successfully return at a time that is healthy for them to do so if they choose.
Please take note that the IFC and PHC have no influence in the decisions that are made at the administrative level. This decision was not a response to any one chapter, any one individual, or IFC or PHC influence. Be assured that IFC and PHC are going to work with local alumni and Theta Chi National Headquarters to ensure a successful return of the Theta Chi organization in the future.
The community can help this organization and the greater Greek community in two ways. First, we need to stop spreading rumors about how or why this organization is facing these consequences. No one instance or set of recent instances triggered this decision. Second, we need to support these men throughout the week and the next two terms. The community has experienced a tremendous amount of growth and cohesion throughout this term. The most we can do now is finish the term with a strong academic performance, take care of our interfraternal sisters and brothers, and lend an assisting hand to those men who were undoubtedly struck with heavy news during their finals week.
Interfraternally,
Ali Runyan & Geoff Palachuk
2008 PHC & IFC Presidents
No one is really sure what happened, but of course rumors are flying. They were told the weekend before finals.

THAT'S bullshit.
Unless they were all terminated by their nationals, they are alumni and damn sure are still members of the Greek community, as far as I'm concerned.
