I was flipping back and forth between that and the World Series so maybe I heard this wrong, but did Kelli say Nicole didn't know what division the Cowboys played in?? Seriously??? After three years with the team? Even if you don't pay enough attention to the team surely that would have sunk in somehow.

You heard correctly - apparently Nicole missed the Division question.
I was a little shocked by the body fat ratio measuring, too, but apparently they do it every year (they used some other kind of machine last year). I thought their physical look would be more important than a pre-determined fat ratio. They showed two girls with (OMG!!!!) around a 20% reading, and I would love to have the figure of either of them. I realize they're older, but Judy doesn't look particularly fit, and neither does Kitty - especially for dancers. Kelli looks good, but obviously has it all lifted and tucked with a complete Spanx undergarment wardrobe.

But none of those 3 have to fit into the DCC outfit anymore. I understand the weight issue, but I disagree with the idea that it "promotes eating disorders." Especially with the veterans, they know what it takes to fit into the outfit, and if they resort to having an eating disorder that is on them, it isn't the fault of the DCC program.
Shoot i'd love to have any of those girls bodies, but I can see where Kelli and the others get their distorted views from. The idea people get of the those girls are the idea they get of the DCC, and by association their idea of Kelli & the team. So if someone looks at a girl and thinks she's heavier or that she has "rolls" in the outfit, that will reflect poorly on the DCC. I'm not saying its right, but I know it happens.

Yeah, like it or not, they're in a very "looks based" business. Like I said before, it's easy for people to say "how awful", but those people probably don't have to wear white booty shorts to work or a shirt that barely qualifies as one.

All this "fat talk" reminds me of the time our rush advisor (from somewhere in the Midwest) told us The Weight Story. The story was of her weight gain during the summer and of her sisters confronting her about it in the weeks before rush starts. They urge her to lose the weight immediately, "for the sake of your sisters..." Of course she complied and lost the weight and she says "I felt great about it." This is from the late-80's era and several years after the highly-publicized death of Karen Carpenter, so it's not like people weren't aware of eating disorders. Anyway I'm sure you're all remembering similar counseling from rush advisors in years past...

Yeah, I don't what know chapter/sorority you're from, but my chapter has never been told to lose weight by any of our AAB members. Please correct me if that's not what you were trying to say, but that's not a practice of every sorority chapter in the country. I also don't see the comparison between being in a sorority and being on professional dance/cheer team.
At any rate I'm fairly sure this thread is about a TV show. So...

Correct KSUViolet that it was a slight hijack above. I am well aware of the DCC discussion in this thread. My tie-in to the DCC 2008 show is this: i was watching the exact same episodes being discussed here, and had similar feelings of nausea that "why are they so concerned about this girls body fat she looks fine to me and fits the uniform etc". My 7-year old daughter was sitting in the room watching the show with me. She was intently interested in all the dance routines and the glamour of the squad, but when this "weight segment" appears in this show I feel a need to turn it off. Even though that's what brings in the ratings, I don't really want my impressionable young girl to see it. So that's what I did - I turned it off. And then I was reminded of that weight story back in college and when it came up, the timing... was eerie.
Carry on...

The uniform fitting part of this episode was interesting, especially hearing what Kelli and Judy had to say about how certain body types just don't look good in the uniform. I wonder what happens when someone makes the cut body fat wise, but is just weirdly shaped and looks bad in the uniform?
On another appearance-related note, I LOLed a little when they were telling Brandi (girl with the curly hair and long fake nails) that some people may think "stripper" when they look at her and see her dance. I was thinking the same thing, but I thought that that was something they'd say behind closed doors and not to her face!
That Kathryn girl who got sent home seemed very sweet and determined. I feel like she could come back next year and make it. I don't see why they didn't send Brandi home instead.
BTW: Sometimes it's hard to be surprised by the show when you can look at the website and just see who made it, but I still watch lol.

Kelli says that if they can't make the girl look good in the uniform then they get cut.
Going back to the body fat % issue, I may be the only one, but I do think Erica was overweight for the uniform. She's not going to be wearing a DCC uniform if she continues to look like that. Erica was the only one that they said was "fat"--and even then I don't remember that word being used, they said she gained weight (which she did). Most of the other girls were between 14-20%. I don't see how it promotes eating disorders.
Anyways since I know that "my" girl doesn't make the team, I wanna see the episode where she gets cut! lol, if the previews show the girls that get called into the room, then she's not gonna get cut next week either. I wanna know why she gets cut.

I remember that in the two hour special from a few years back that Deanna Hernandez was told to lose weight. She's 5'2" and she the most she weighed was 115. There was nothing wrong with her. Her weight looks realistic on her height frame than someone who is 5'8".
Kathryn is a such a sweetheart. I hope that she comes back next year.

I do love this show, though! This makes me even more upset, because I don't have cable anymore

The Braves have "cheerleaders" as well. They call them the Tomahawk Team.

I saw the episode a few moments ago and they dig up some dirt about Brandi. They found some unflattering pics on her myspace page. The pics were about Brandi partying, and Kelli said that this was not what we like in the candidates. I think that this is a wise move by Kelli and Judy. I mean, there is nothing wrong with being a party girl, but you need to be more careful.
As for Katie, like Erica, there is nothing wrong with her figure. She is curvaceous. That's all.

I think this episode is something actually GOOD for younger girls to see, in terms of the internet thing. I'm friends with some of my HS-aged cousins and their friends on MySpace/Facebook, and I know that some kids their age will put pics like that up thinking they're cute/cool/sexy/whatever. Also, alot of times when you tell them that what they post can affect real life, they kind of roll their eyes and say "whatever, that won't happen."
I think kids can benefit from actually seeing that the things you put out there can affect you in real life, whether it's with applying for jobs, going through recruitment, trying out for a team like DCC, ANYTHING.

Capital letters and correct grammar would make this somewhat understandable.
