Do you know oldu's intentions? There have been multiple threads like this over time and lots of discussion over this. In the end, oldu attempts to "objectively" determine the "best" NPC group which is not really appreciated in the NPC world. Am I really irritated by this thread....NO. I'm just bored at work and object to the conclusions that oldu wants readers to reach. NPC is not the same as NIC...location of chapters is multifactorial.

Hate me if you will, but OldU is nothing more than a history buff. He owns an extensive collection of books and materials on universities and Greek systems.

OldU states facts/trivia and that's it. He sometimes throws out rhetorical questions that end up in fire balls. Many of us are more thin-skinned than we would like to admit, but I don't think he is trying to determine best, most popular, etc.

Just my opinion. On to another thread.

It isn't incumbent on me to know what oldu's intentions are. You are the one who claims to know.

Yes, I know about the oldu's multiple threads, and I've yet to see a claim that one group is better than another.

NPC is not the same of NIC? Thanks, but I'm not a member of either conference.

I, of course, cannot KNOW his intent, but oldu has made his intent known multiple times. He/She may be a history buff....if that's all there is to it, then he/she should make that clear. Unfortunately, if oldu has no ulterior motive, it isn't clear to those who are reading this thread other than you. Benzgirl may be correct, we may be a little thin skinned about this stuff...not because of an inferiority complex, but because we get sick and tired of people making judgements on the worth of our educations, the quality of our sororities or fraternities and the value of our chapters. If the guys want to hash out who's the "best," go for it. We just don't see the point most of the time.

It is what it is, I'm not sure why people are getting upset.

I went to a school in the top 50 also. My post was a joke directed at a certain poster who is totally obsessed with rankings.

I am an analytical person and enjoy data gathering myself, as is apparent by my history/recruitment thread. I wasn't knocking oldu, because I suspect his/her motive was in the vein of "hey, this is interesting." But, there are certainly folks who read that post and pat themselves on the back - people who just can't get over themselves.

On one hand, I am a bit bummed that my sorority is not in any of those.

On the other hand, rankings can only count for so much. By going to UF, I was able to live at home, have a full scholarship, and have summer and winter jobs easily. So I was able to save a lot of money and need absolutely no loans for graduate school.

The school I went to for library school was not ranked as high as the other library school in my state. However, it fit my needs at the time MUCH better- it was a commuter campus, it provided more opportunities for fieldwork, and it had more Spanish speakers which increased my demand. Those were two of the best years of my life.

So rankings can only be a small part of the whole piece.

If you simply didn't see the point of the thread, you would ignore it. But you're not just letting oldu and whoever's interested "go for it" -- you're complaining about it.

If oldu posted a list of which NPCs have the most chapters at schools that start with M, I doubt we'd see many complaints on the thread...because that really would be meaningless. People care enough to get offended about this because they think the top-50 ranking does carry some meaning.

I think this particular list is of some interest. If social GLOs promote career networking as a benefit of membership, then considering where your brothers/sisters come from nationwide makes sense. (No, I'm not a member of any listed group.)

I said the "guys" can hash it out. Us girls prefer not to go into who's "best." So...yes, I am complaining. I just don't buy the "information only" intent after reading the downright rude "information only" posts oldu put in the AST and ASA forums.
