NPC chapters at U.S. News top colleges & universities

The latest edition of U. S. News & World Report's rankings of top colleges & universities has been released. I have taken the top fifty universities and top twenty colleges to see which sororities have currently active chapters at them. I included any group that will colonize this fall.

For the record, 13 of the 70 institutions have never had national Greek organizations. Fifty of them currently have at least some NIC or NPC groups, although in a few cases they are a very minor impact on campus.

Listed below is each NPC sorority and the number of chapters currently at the nation's most prestigious institutions:

36 Kappa Alpha Theta
33 Kappa Kappa Gamma
31 Pi Beta Phi
28 Delta Delta Delta
28 Delta Gamma
27 Alpha Chi Omega
27 Alpha Phi
23 Chi Omega
16 Alpha Delta Pi
16 Gamma Phi Beta
15 Kappa Delta
13 Alpha Epsilon Phi
11 Sigma Delta Tau
10 Alpha Omicron Pi
10 Sigma Kappa
9 Phi Mu
9 Zeta Tau Alpha
7 Alpha Xi Delta
7 Delta Zeta
6 Alpha Gamma Delta
5 Delta Phi Epsilon
3 Phi Sigma Sigma
3 Sigma Sigma Sigma
1 Alpha Sigma Alpha
1 Alpha Sigma Tau
0 Theta Phi Alpha

Really interesting, but doesn't prove anything except that some NPC organizations have alumnae from prestigious universities. If colonization was possible at every institution for every group, this may prove that some NPC groups are more popular amongst women in highly ranked universities. The NPCs that are highly represented in these colleges and universities just display a different expansion model and possibly better luck with getting the go ahead to colonize or at maintaining a chapter at these institutions.

Plus, this list is of what orgs are currently active, not what orgs have ever existed on those campuses. Nice to do during high rush season, though, Nut...er...oldu.

Exactly. This is thoughtless and very bad publicity for the groups at the top of the list since PNMs might get the impression that some groups cater to pretentious bitches exclusively.

Ha! Agreed! I'm very glad that AOII, Phi Mu, Kappa Delta and Sigma Kappa slummed it at my poor state university. We had a great greek system filled with women that any NPC would be happy to call sisters! And...just because we went to a local school did not mean we were all dumb and unambitious...we just liked being close to home.

You aren't allowed to say that, because everybody knows that's just a rationalization because you couldn't get in anywhere else. ;)

Oh yeah....I forgot! Actually, that wasn't the case for me either...I went to NLU because it was away from home. I had a scholarship to LSU, but I would have had to live at home! Ugh! My mom absolutely refused to let me apply out of state. I guess my problem was that I wasn't rich enough!

It is laughable that some of you can't accept the data for what it is without making your typical catty remarks. Can you explain why it upsets you? I just don't get it.

Surprise, surprise. The most "prestigious" schools tend to be older, and the older schools tend to have more chapters of the oldest sororities.

I went to a school in the top 50, but I'm not a pretentious bitch.

AOII Angel 08-24-2008 11:57 AM

I think we all can accept the data for what it is. Some NPC groups have more chapters at prestigious universities and colleges than other NPC groups. The problem is with the intent of oldu. I have no problem with my education...I got as far as my co-physicians that were trained at more expensive institutions, and I don't go around name dropping like one of them does to make himself feel better. To each his own.

Of course, you're not, but like the people at state schools who "couldn't get in anywhere else", all students at Top 50 schools are "pretentious bitches!" Everything about this thread is a stereotype.

So you know what oldu's intentions are? I would caution against reading more into it than what it is.
