I don't know anything about COB opportunities, as I believe all of the sororities are at or close to total. A few groups may have openings, but the Greek Life Office there would be your best source of info on COB opportunities.

Then of course in the upcoming weeks, Alpha Phi will be having it's colony recruitment. Yes, they are new to Bama, but they are an established Panhellenic sorority, and have many chapters all over the country. It is worth checking out as it would be an amazing thing for your daughter to be able to say that she is one of the founding members of the Bama chapter (if she were selected to be part of the group).
Alpha Phi will definitely be a great option, and I have been so pleasantly surprised by the response they've gotten! Some of the Greek stores are already stuff Alpha Phi gear and I think they'll get a great class.

It's not completely impossible to get a bid as a sophomore - I just got a bid to Alpha Chi and my roommate is pledging Chi O. Another friend of ours dropped during rush last year and just got a bid to Alpha Gam. It's really about meeting lots of girls and getting involved on campus!

This it true. One of my daughter's suitemates was engaged during her freshman year and did not go through rush. The engagement was called off. So she ended up making lots of friends through her suitemates contacts and signing up for Freshman Forum. She pledged (I forget what) last fall as a sophomore.

Suggest that your daughter interview for Freshman Forum ... that should be gearing up soon. Also, coax her to keep her grades up and be initiated into Phi Eta Sigma, which is the Freshman Honor Society. If she DOES wait until next fall to rush again, exemplary campus activities could be her fresh ticket to her favorite Greek house.

I just heard that Gamma Phi will DEFINITELY be recruiting up to total this year.

For the moms whose daughters did not receive bids as well as PNMs who did not receive bids, it might be a good idea to check out not only Alpha Phi, but Gamma Phi Beta as well -- two great Syracuse Triad groups!

For more information about 'Bama's Gamma Phi Beta chapter, please PM kk_bama. In case her inbox is full, PM me and I'll shoot her email address along.

Thanks, OTW - Gamma Phi is a wonderful group (not that I'm a bit biased!) and I'm so excited to have Alpha Phi coming on to the campus - I hope some pnms who perhaps had their heart set on other groups will give both Gamma Phi and Alpha Phi a closer look.
