Thank you!!! It has been a great experience for her!! Although, the Fall semester was very hard - especially watching her roommate have swaps, etc - that is now just a distant memory for her - it turned out right for her in the end....nd she didn't miss a football game and had lots of connections in frats and other sororities - so it has turned out better than I could hope! Thanks for remembering us!

Update

Just got back from AU. Wanted to give you an update. The weather was threatening, thunder, lightning and some light rain around 4:00 to 4:30. Sky started to clear, but by the time we got to the amphitheater area (where bids are distributed), rain began to fall and the humidity began to rise!!! Thankfully, it didn't downpour. More of a nuisance than anything.

This was my first time watching a bid day, and it was as advertised -- lots of screaming, yelling, jumping up and down and a few tears. Most of the girls I saw looked very happy.

Quota was 59, as has been said above, I think, and my daughter's chapter has 61 new pledges. Many, many out-of-state girls in the group, and my daughter did not know a single girl in her pledge class. But she knows several of the actives and seems to be thrilled to now be a member of................................................ ..........................................

PI BETA PHI (an AU "Angel")

Thanks to all of you for your support this week. It was nerve-wracking, to say the least.

AuburnMom08, I hope your daughter has a wonderful year at AU and gets very involved and seriously considers COB in the spring or the new colony Theta.

Oh! and Theta should be a great oppotunity - they are the national sister sorority for my son's frat FIJI- and I know lots of people who are eagerly anticipating their colonization!

I see that the city I grew up in (Virginia Beach, VA) was representing at Auburn (mostly KKG)

IMHO, recruitment before classes is better because you don't have conflicts with classes, and you avoid some of the tent talk and rumors. It doesn't interfere with or distract other students coming back to school. You get it over with and done.
But really, it's just what you're accustomed to.

Amen to that! I HATE deferred winter recruitment, especially on a competitive, heavily greek, cold, wintry campus. Dirty rush, awkward office transitions right before recruitment, winter initiations with snow and ice storms interferring in travel for legacy moms and advisors, not getting women truly integrated into the chapter until soph year, entering the fall semester with depleted numbers due to graduation.... my list goes on and on!

AuburnPNMom, so glad to hear about your daughter and how well everything worked out for her after a tough fall quarter last year. I remember your story, and was wondering what the outcome was. Sounds like a great situation for a great girl.

Congrats to all the new members at Auburn, with special hugs to my new Alpha Xi sisters, and the new members from the New England area!

Auburnmom - I never participated in formal rush (I was clueless about the Greek world and didn't even know that rush had happened until after I saw the girls in white dresses...). Anyway, a class friend brought me to a COB event in January of Spring semester. I knew virtually no one in a sorority, until I went to the COB event, and found out a girl I used to carpool and perform with in HS (a year older than me) was a member!

Not sure if that helped or hurt (because we had had a one of those boy-related tiffs in HS), but I indeed found my home in Alpha Xi Delta.

If your daughter does find a home with one of the sororties, or finds her college family in another way (and it looks like 75% of girls find their niche elsewheere), best of luck to her. Auburn is a fantastic establishment and just going there is an incredible opportunity.

Congratulations to both you and your daughter. It was worth reading the entire thread to find out that I have a new sister and we all have a new "baby angel."

AuburnMom08, I'm sorry your daughter didn't find what she was looking for and I hope that she does look into COB or Theta. She seems like a very mature young lady and I wish you and her the best.

AuMom08 - congratulations to you and your daughter! Hope she has a wonderful new member period and loves her new sisters.

(Hooray - one advantage to being a sorority with carnations as the flower is 1.) they are always available, and 2.) usually inexpensive!)
