wearing letters

Is it o.k. to wear greek letters to work?
Our business is business casual, but some co-workers wear their greek letters almost every day if not every day. I have a problem with that dress code.

That depends on where you work.

Agreed - and also on how they're wearing them. Lavalieres? Embroidered polos? Party tees? Hoodies? Is it a Greek Life office?

When to wear

It is a professional establishment, we are allowed to wear jeans on fridays just to give you an idea. We work with the community and sometimes they don't know any better and think that greek organizations are like "animal house", so it sends a negative message.

If their dress is inappropriate HR would likely have the first say. If your coworkers are representing themselves professionally in the community and HR doesn't have a problem with what they are wearing I would let it go. Many people have negative opinions for all kinds of stereotypes, I'm not sure it's a good idea to go down the path of trying to anticipate all of them. For example, I might encounter a man who thinks a woman has no place in the work force. Perhaps I should stay at home lest it send a negative message about my employer.

Are you worried about your company or about yourself?

WHEN TO WEAR

I am worried about the company, not myself, Remember I am Greek, but I am respectfully greek. Wearing letters head to toe is in disrecpect of the office dress code. I believe in being appropriate wearing letter everyday from head to toe is not appropriate. That is the reason dress down Fridays was established.

LOL @ respectfully Greek.

If wearing letters head to toe is "in disrecpect" of the office dress code, then I think you've answered your own question. Unless you work in HR, I think you should probably just worry about what you're wearing -- let them handle it.

FYI
