Maybe you could make a point to get to know them over the next year? I called up OLD contacts and said "I'm thinking of going through recruitment and would love to hear about your experience." Everyone was happy to share, and at the end I asked if they would be willing to write a rec. No one ever turned me down. And if you're in a small town like you say, they may make a call to confirm you're a quality girl, so be on your best behavior this year!

I'm a member of a professional sorority at UGA, and I've been reading a bunch of threads about Panhellenic recruitment just for kicks. I did not go through a formal rush like theirs, but I have several friends who did at UGA and I have some specific advice for you.
First off, since you haven't been accepted yet, I want to re-emphasize the point about grades, activities, and test scores, especially if you're applying Early Action. Honestly that's all that the admissions council is going to see unless you get deferred. And deferrment isn't bad-- in my opinion, it's actually giving you a chance to sell yourself better to the admissions council!
Secondly, you'll be walking down Milledge (and a couple on-campus locations) in the hot hot hot sweltering humidity of the Georgia summer. I know there's a lot of stressing on "how to dress" for recruitment, but I reckon you'll be needing sundresses and nice, comfy shoes. Go for flip-flops that won't give you blisters, but wear nicer ones that match your sundress (i.e. no "footprints" in the sole!), maybe even those ones with the little kitten heels. Also, I don't know if the UGA Panhellenic council has rules on how you're supposed to wear your hair, but if you can wear it however you want, I suggest a ponytail, simply because it's going to be easy and your hair won't be sticking to the back of your neck!
Oh. And they're serious about the black and white dress thing, because even in my sorority actives wear one color and new members (we call them MCs, Membership Candidates) wear the other, so that when pictures are taken at initiation and activation it is clear who has just joined!
If you have any questions about teachers, classes, or majors at UGA feel free to contact me.
Good luck applying! It'll be great to have another member of the Bulldog Nation!
