((((((hugs for you)))))))

I hope you feel better soon.

Oh, VAgirl, I'm so sorry to hear it. Go to Bermuda and get married on the beach. This is not what you want to look back on in 20 years as your wedding experience. I hope you feel better!

so sorry you are going through all of this! i convinced my BFF to do a destination wedding b/c between her mom and future MIL, it would've been overdone and she's a super simple person. we went to Jamaica and it was perfect. I hope things work out well for you!

I hope you're getting better. A wedding and wedding planning should be a happy time.

I agree with the previous poster. Have a destination wedding. Mr. Pi Phi and have just decided to have one.

We were worried about where to have the wedding (We're both fom opposite ends of the province), we were worried that no one would show up. We had arguments and tears.

So, we're going to Cuba next year (we need time to save up). Once our trip is booked, we're going to let people know what we're doing and they can make the decision to join us or not. We don't want anyone to feel obligated to come, but it's great if they can make it.

I am sorry you're so upset. And I'm going to sound really insensitive by saying this, but I'll just say it: Put up or shut up. The fact that you're requiring hospitalization because you're stressed out over the way your mom is spending her own money on something she is doing for YOU is a bit ridiculous. Let your parents have their gala event. Afterward, have a great reception with the people you want. Everyone wins.

The marriage is the important thing. The wedding is merely an opportunity to bring together all of the important people in your lives and your families lives for one day. If the idea of your mom planning this event makes you physically ill, I think you need to step back and think about what is really important here: your relationship with your parents who are footing the bill for this soiree or getting everything your way and not having to put any money toward it. Like it or not, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

I really hope you do feel better!!!

Oh, I wasn't completely stressed because of all the wedding planning. There's just a huge culmination of things. I have a debilitating disease that comes out of remission in times of high stress which requires hospitalization and steroid injections. I'm completely appreciative of the fact that they are paying for things...its more of the fact that eloping was seeming like a good way to avoid family conflicts and unrealistic expectations from my parents.

Since all of this has occurred, my parents have realized that their demands have been unrealistic. All I wanted was something low key with family there and not putting effort into something for their friends that I barely know. The majority of the planning is on hold and the focus is now my health and sanity.
