Just something to add here - had a friend from college and she called herself "dark skinned". She did not say she was "black" or even "African American". She was from Miami and did not live in a predominantly white area by any means. It was rather a diverse area.

She did not try to be a part of an NPC or NPHC org. Back in the day, she would have had a hard time finding a home in either. She ended up becoming a little sister to an all white fraternity and was thrilled. (I should add all types of people from various backgrounds had issues with her, no matter what she did) She even ended up marrying a white male and now lives in a predominantly white area.

It is so very hard to categorize and try to analyze these things. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. People will just be people and it is called life. You can't make everyone happy.

I just wish people would be a tiny bit more understanding of things - no matter how wrong they think it is. You can beat this type of topic and it will never be over.

But it isn't impossible and happens everyday by laypersons and in disciplinary subject matters.

There actually is. People operate in trends and patterns and allow for generalizations to be made. Even "exceptions" operate in similar trends and patterns as other exceptions.

Your friend is actually quite typical, even if she isn't from a predominantly white area.
