I'm a northerner who's never lived in Texas, but I used to go to Austin twice a year. Its a city that I get homesick for, and I've never really lived there. Especially when I hear that Bowling for Soup song ("Ohio") with the "come back to Texas," chorus. Mmmmm... and now my mouth is watering for Chuy's margaritas... and longing for SXSW... and remembering good times at The Salt Lick...

The only time I have been to Texas is when I was stuck in the Dallas airport for 5 hours (delayed because of thunderstorms) with my then 19 month old son.

But I must say, the people working the counter were incredibly nice and even let me go into the flyers club room when my son got sleepy so he could nap somewhere quiet.

My dad is from Texas and I have lots of relatives there, but unfortunately, I have only been to the Houston airport during a layover.

However, I am heading to Austin in May for a bachelorette party and I am very excited to see my dad's home state! Hope I remember it!

Not really sure, names of places change....I was there in the fall of 2001 in San Marcos as part of a certificate program. So, it's been awhile. It was near the courthouse.

Gil's Broiler has been Gil's Broiler since my parents were there in 1960 - 64! It is near the courthouse, but I can see that the name might not imprint itself on your brain. Should you ever go back, you've got to have a yeasty, cinnamony, gooey Manske roll! Oh, they put Cinnabon to shame!

This thread deserves a bump.

Fort Worth is 361 times better to live than Dallas....

Discuss.

Tom Earp is now officially insane

Um, I don't have any idea what you are talking about. Truly. I'm not on HPRL, thank you very much.

While to say that I am homeless (I sold my house in TN but have not purchased one in TX yet) and unemployed (my job doesn't start until the fall) is a bit of an overstatement, still, thank God I am in Texas, and thank God you are not.

eta - I checked on HPRL, and there is a new member known as TexasBelle. That's not me - I am always SWTXBelle. And near as I can tell, TexasBelle hasn't posted on HPRL, so what gives?

Cory Morrow - Texas Time Traveling

Well close your eyes and dream with me
I'm goin on a trip through history
I wanna see some sights today
Yeah we'll go back when time was young
And you learned the trigger of a gun
Or you'd be six feet on your way
When the mountains closed the valley side
And rivers held the miners pride
It was the year of forty-nine
Well those days are now gone and dead
And I wish that I could see the lead
Flying from the cowboys iron
Chorus
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna be there, breathe the air and see all I can see
In my Texas time travelin' machine
The day goes on, the beats down
It bakes your skin to golden brown
Now your feelin like a king
We'll pull off along side the road
And see the land ol Jesse owned
And all the times he spent with me
Then along the skyline of the trees
We'll skinny dip within the stream
And we'll flash the passing cars
Then we'll jump into our Cadillac
The tracks of time will take us back
Back to the land off so far
Chorus
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna be there, breathe the air and see all I can see
In my Texas time travelin' machine
You've got to take a look around
And see this land before it drowns
Underneath the city streets
Geronimo he said it best
This is my land I will not rest
Until I'm dead or it's been freed
Chorus
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna go time travelin' through Texas you and me
I wanna be there, breathe the air and see all I can see-a

Overall, though, it's the bigness of the car that counts the most. Because when something bad happens in a really big car – accidentally speeding through the middle of a gang of unruly young people who have been taunting you in a drive-in restaurant, for instance – it happens very far away – way out at the end of your fenders. It's like a civil war in Africa; you know, it doesn't really concern you too much. - P.J. O'Rourke

Ft. Worth doesn't have as much to do as Dallas. It's a little quieter than Dallas, but I don't like having to drive 20-30 minutes to do things.
