Carter pretty much wrecked my state's economy during his tenure by approving and promoting confiscatory taxation on domestic production. Prior to that, my family operated a small oil company. Those taxes forced us to sell.
Every time I see one of these efftard politicians pandering re: taxation on the energy industry, I have to wonder if we will ever learn from our mistakes.
