I dont understand it either John. We were supposed to be getting a new website as well and i have yet to see that released. Ive heard certain people or chapters have access to it, but im wondering whats the holdup on that. The site now is aggravating and confusing its a wonder its still operational. Personally i search google and they usually direct me to the right LXA page rather than sifting through the site.
Also, is a new directory supposed to come out, cause i thought that was on the agenda as well?
Seems like this stuff should all be finished by Centennial so we can make a good impression on all of the people who are gonna show up and be looking for some new fire as it were. Maybe rekindle what was there when they were undergrads.

The 'back story' on IT
Years ago we bought some data management software, I believe it was known as 'IMIS' that was supposed to solve all our problems. We mortgaged the farm on the damn thing and it never did work worth a damn. I suspect that our IT dollars were sunk into IMIS which precluded improvements in other technology. But IMIS is long since dead and buried and we need something - anything - 'cause anything is better than what we've got now!

Paper?
I received the following on March 25. "The website/iMIS database access apparently was too much to deliver in the set time period. The plan now is to deliver a website w/out the database, which I know isn't what you want to hear. The timeframe is to deliver the first phase of a new website by this summer."
As for the magazine, I think I'll pull out a Purple, Green and Gold from 1914, which - believe it or not - I can actually read!

The Cross & Crescent is back on line.
Apparently, the problem was due to a web hosting glitch and related software upgrades that hadn't happened. Thanks go to Tad, Chris, and a couple more tech-savvy brothers who worked hard to solve the problem and get it going again.

A Possible Article?
Wonder if an article on the current state of LXA IT would be appropriate for the C & C. Nuts and bolts stuff like whether we maintain our own server(s), the extent to which membership and financial data is linked, how our databases interface with the web site, that sort of thing. If there is interest, hell, I might even write it.

I would be very interested in such an article, regardless of author. It's the kind of thing upon which computer nerds thrive! I don't know why it would be inappropriate for CandC to write about, though it would be interesting to see the background of our IT infrastructure (and problems we've been facing).
