I didn't think you were trying to be negative. I thought you have low expectations.
Some people need drama to feel special and alive.
Everyone has a past of some sort because the past comes before the present and the future will make this present the past. And everyone has concerns of some sort. That doesn't translate to "having a past" (in the automatically negative sense of the word) and "having issues" (in the dramatic sense of the word).
