California Greeks!

At Berkeley we have a pretty good greek life! About 12% of the students here are greek... which isn't very high, but it's not bad. We have 12 Panhellenic sororities, 36 IFC fraternities, 9 National Pan-Hellenic fraternities and sororities, and 8 Cultural fraternities and sororities. There isn't really any anti-Greek feeling on campus, but in my area at least, we don't grow up thinking that going to college and rushing for a sorority go hand in hand. I know that at one point (around the 60's-70's) Berkeley's sororities really suffered in membership because at the time, it was really cool to be anti-establishment and sororities were seen as something to be avoided. But membership is going strong now.

Also, most of my California high school friends who went to other colleges went greek (one is a Kappa Kappa Gamma!).

I need to check out the campus there. I just have not really taken the BART up to that neck of the woods
