Don't forget Nepal - the other Burgee - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Nepal

Then there's Lower Saxony - http://www.flags.net/GERM01.htm#GERM0110

Ahh - MysticCat - another Vexilloligist. During the dot com boom, I used that as my title on my business card. I was the "flag waver" for our technological prowess. And my "waving" was engineered.

Georgia Flags

There have been about 28 flags that have flown over Georgia since 1474.

Also, the stars and bars that is controversial is on the current flag right now. People get the stars and bars mixed up with the confederate battle flag that used to be on the old flag. But here are pictures of the past 3 flags Georgia has used since 1956.

1956-2001 - State Seal with the Confederate Battle Flag

2001-2003- State Seal in "Dahlonega Gold" with all the flags that have flown over Georgia (since being a colony and NOT INCLUDING the War of Northern Aggression) and also the words "In God We Trust"

2003-present- State seal on the left with the STARS AND BARS of the first confederate national flag. *the stars are around the state seal and represent the original 13 colonies* and the bars well duh the red and white stripes

I'm not sure that Nepal technically qualifies as a burgee, but I'll certainly give you Lower Saxony. And we have to remember (which I didn't in my earlier post) that swallow-tailed flags are quite common in the govenrmental flags of Scandinavia, such as the Danish state ensign:

or the Swedish royal flag:

We vexillologists must stick together!

Saltire designs often get "clipped" into a swallowtail, and stiffeners are put in to make the flag stay straight. Comes in handy for making sure somebody else identifies your flag (especially when that somebody could be a fellow combat unit).

I agree - there's a certain mixture of skill sets that wind up creating a vexillologist. Good ritual almost always has a set of flags and banners around. Ritual gowns, hoodwinks and costumes have to be flame proof, otherwise you wind up catching your sleeve on fire, from a candle. Upholstery dudes are good at fireproofing - boats and planes have to pass a flame spread test, and it's not a bad idea in your car. Upholstery often involves big, unwieldy fabric that's more like a rug. Military units (like drill teams) require perfect uniforms, buttons, patches, etc. They have to hold together, and hang right, so you learn to sew with dental floss and wire solder. And, if you are really good - you can do this: http://www.theatre.vt.edu/DESTOP/drjld/lulu.html

Being born in SC, I love the SC flag because you can show your state pride in so many different color combinations.

Confused about some of the Georgia ones until I remembered that Georgia is also a country.

Oh...couldn't resist a squirrel search, lol.

KTBug, I wasn't referring to you, lol. I knew what you meant, having lived in the STATE of Georgia for decades

I was referring to the country Georgia flags on that website.

Well I've always liked my "state" flag (Ontario) since it's so close to the original Canadian flag, the 'Canadian Red Ensign' - the one before the Maple Leaf one that ever one is so familiar with:

Of course I'm also pretty partial to Nova Scotia's:

Quebec's flag is certainly distinct alright... and the most overtly religious as well - pretty much lifted from flag of the French Canadian Catholics, but minus the Sacred Heart in the middle of the cross.
