I started an informal "poll" on Greek Life, as I know there are many fraternity men who wish to stay on topic here.

Why do you guys invade a thread that's about a) Southern b) fraternities, at c) large SEC/Big12/ACC schools, when none of those 3 criteria apply to you?
In all seriousness, no one cares about your input and opinions on these topics since they have nothing to do with you.

Um, no doubt you've got some grounds to complain about the discussion, but this thread is really only about one of the three things you listed. It's nominally about rush mistakes at ANY institution.

Reading is fun!
If you look at the title of the thread, it states quite clearly ANY institution. And I know it is a shock to you, but there are institutions of higher learning that are not in the SEC. Once women are no longer involved in fraternity recruitment I guess you can argue that they have no insight to share. Perhaps they aren't at your campus - but they are at others, and some of us have served as Greek Advisors at various campuses, so have more knowledge than you know.
If you don't like our posts, feel free to put us on ignore. Ta-da! No more annoying posts for you to read.
And you are a little late - when the topic got way off base, I started a thread over in Greek Life. So you are whining about a problem that has been solved. Threads go widely off topic - it's the rare thread that doesn't. If you want to get a thread back on topic, post a question or statement that addresses the op.

Could you get them to do something about the quality of network programing on TV? Or even Jorts? I'll take what I can get.

I just wish you'd ask them to do a better job of it.

If indeed other women use it, it doesn't make it any better than minorities using racial slurs affectionately or as a joke. Some women will refer to others as c**** - I think that's wrong, too.
So the score - Offensive - 2
Not offensive, hey, it's joke - 1
eta - hey, how many of you fraternity men object to the term "frat" - a far less loaded term?
|
Holy shit, you are taking this term to a ridiculously extreme level. Jesus.
I don't give a rat's ass if someone uses the term "frat". I say it sometimes...........when we're joking around.
....and for the record, I hold women in the highest regard and treat all of them with the utmost respect, i.e., how women are supposed to be treated.
It's not like a racial slur.

There are women who would disagree. You may not mean to be offensive, but there are those who would be offended. See thread in Greek Life. It was my understanding that there were those who wished to keep this thread on topic - go to, gentlemen.

Yeah, that's it. Girls who joke around about the term "sorostitute" are all devoid of self respect, self-confidence, and they were all raised poorly.
Are you kidding me?

You say you respect women, but will you tolerate someone calling your future wife (or mother or sister or daughter) any derivative of "prostitute"?

....because your immediate family and wife are exactly like a bunch of college aged people who are comfortable with using some crude humor around each other in friendly settings.
It's almost as if some of you think guys just call random girls they don't know a derivative of "prostitute".

One day when your daughter comes home from high school and says "Hey, guess what, Daddy, all the boys on the football team call me a cheer-whore, isn't that funny and cute?", will you tell her that yes, sweetie, that's a term of endearment, you should roll with it and let the boys call you that adorable, demeaning term. Or, will you tell her that she is better than that and worth more than that and she shouldn't accept that kind of diminution for someone else's entertainment?
|
Does this need to be done again?
.......because a random high school football player calling your daughter a whore is obviously the EXACT same situation as you joking around with a group of PERFECTLY GOOD FRIENDS who understand that the term "sorostitute" is a joke, used in jest.

I'm sure there are women who would take offense. That's why you don't go around saying it to a bunch of randoms that you don't know.

And that's why I specify that context is important. Not that I would ever think using the term is a good thing, but I can understand it a little more amongst chapter brothers, as opposed to a mixed group of men and women with whom you are not really acquainted. As my earlier example stated, calling your chapter brother "fratty" or some form of "frat" might be hilarious - but you could be in big trouble if you did it to someone you didn't know who might be really offended.

I'll agree with that.....although if you get highly offended by the term "frat" you need to reevaluate your life.
